If one dies in the lord, they are not dead, but asleep. Asleep to this world but alive and in the presence of the Lord in the other (real) world (Heaven). On Thursday morning, October 10,1996, Mother Janie (Granny) Jackson Sims went to sleep so that she could be with the Lord. Mother Sims was bom April 15, 1916 to the late Ishmael and Julia James Jackson in Richland County, South Carolina. She attended Weston and Gadsden Schools were she learned the basics; yet, because of God's given wisdom, she was able to make it through this life with much success. It was at an early age that Mother Sims received Jesus as her Savior and lord. She was baptized andjoined St. Marie Baptist Church. In 1932, while still a young lady, Mother Sims joined the St. Mark Baptist Church Senior Choir, upon which she actively and joyfully served for over sixty years until her health began to fail her. She served on the Missionary Society #1 at St. Mark; however, "Making a joyful noise unto the Lord" and serving as leader of the choir were her pleasures. Whether it was with the choir, her brothers and sisters, her children, or the Odell Sims Gospel Singers, Mother Sims loved praising the Lord through song. She was married to the late William B. Sims. Mother Sims was a hard and diligent worker, a farmer, domestic worker and an employee of the University of South Carolina where she retired because of illness. Above her work, she loved people. Strangers were made to feel comfortable to the point of becoming her friend. Children were her delight. She was the mother of twelve. Two of whom preceded her into eternity, Master Beverly Sims and Levi (Berry Goodwin) Jackson. She leaves to joyfully mourn her passing her sons, Mr. William T. (Barbara), Deacon Harry (Louise), Mr.Frank and Bishop Odell (Mary) Sims, all of Gadsden, South Carolina; daughters, Ms. Amy Sims, Mrs. Margaret Anderson, Mrs. Ella Mae (Clarence) Felder, all of Gadsden, South Carolina, Evangelist Willie Belle Sims of Newark, New Jersey, Ms. Janie Marie Sims and Ms. Eleanor (David Goodwin) Boyd, both of the home; one granddaughter who she reared, Mrs. Caroline (Lavem) Dennis of Gadsden, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Marie Jackson ofHopkins, South Carolina; stepchildren, Mrs. Dinah Moore, Mrs. Evelyn Wilson, Mrs. Amie Williams, all of Gadsden, South Carolina, Mrs. Mary S. (James) Bruce of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Deacon Ben (Lucille) Jones of Gadsden, South Carolina; one stepdaughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Sims of Hopkins, South Carolina; sisters, Mrs. Nancy (Edward) Brown of Columbia, South Carolina, Mrs. Jessie Mae (Eddie) Leak and Mrs. Rosa Adams, both of Hopkins, South Carolina, Mrs. Carrie Belle (Deacon John) Adams of Gadsden, South Carolina; one brother, Mr. Robert Odell (Ruby) Jackson of Columbia, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Mrs. Naomi Jackson of Hopkins, South Carolina. Mother Sims was known as "Granny" by her children and great-grandchildren as far west as Tulsa, Oklahoma and as far south as Pensicola, Florida. She leaves to rejoice in her legacy thirty-four grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild; god-grandchildren, god great-grandchildren; step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, step great, great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host o f other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. #rber of ^>etbtce <&frituar? anti <0rber of TOortffhp PRELUDE..................................................................................Musical Selections...
