 . OBITUARY 
Life is but a working day...A time tp work and a time to pray, and then comes death and this comes to all. 
Martha Pope, daughter of the late Jackson and Amanda Pope was born January 31, 1922 in Wake County. She departed this life Tuesday, May 23, 1989 at the Wake County Medical Center after an extended illness. 
Her early life was spent in the Nazareth Community. She attended the Wake County Public Schools. 
The character and qualities of Martha received their first influence in the Christian home of her parents. Her mother instilled strong spiritual and moral values in her. At an early age, she professed her Christian faith and joined the Oak City Baptist Church, where she actively participated in church activities. After leaving Raleigh in 1944, she affiliated with the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Arveine, New York, where she continued to work in the services of the Lord. 
At an early age Martha assumed the role of a sheperd in the family. Tenderly and dutifully she attended to the needs of her family. Martha will be remembered among other things for her love, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends. She will be remembered as an energetic person, full of life, and one who was willing to help others. By profession she was a cosmetologist and caterer who con scientiously performed for others. 
Cherishing fond memories of Martha are: three brothers, Joseph Pope of Raleigh, Wilbert Pope, of Augusta, Georgia. Paul pope Sr. of Washington D. C.; three sisters, Mary Fearnot of Far Rockaway, N. Y., Gertrude pope and Amanda Hooker of Raleigh; one aunt, Mrs. Annie Hicks of Raleigh; tteices, nephews, two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. 
Let us not mourn her passing; Let us rejoice to know, that earthly labors are finished; She was prepared to go. 
 
 Let us emulate her virtues, that friends of ours may say, "The world is a brighter, better place, because she passed this way."
