He was the son of the late James Myers, Sr. and Tecora Williams Myers. James' formal education was in Ridge Hill High School, Ridge Spring, South Carolina. He was baptized at an early age at Magnolia Baptist Church, Aiken, South Carolina. James moved from South Carolina to Hempstead, New York, in 1947, and later he joined the South Hempstead Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.C. Evans, D.D. He was united in marriage to Rubena Jennings on June 1, 1957. Shortly after, they made Rockville Centre, (Lakeview), New Ycrk, their home until this present time. James was employed by the Board of Education, West Hempstead School District for 34 years, and, in addition he owned and operated a successful landscaping business which services the surrounding communities. In later years he joined Faith Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Charles Neal. Leaving to cherish his memories is a loving and devoted wife, Rubena; two sons, Kenneth and Russell; two daughters, Berlinda and Lynette; three granddaughters, Larissa, Shonda and Leigh; Father-in-Law, Deacon Rufus Jennings; Mother-inLaw, Shineida Jennings; Daughter-in-Law, Sharon; Son-in-Law, Jovon Edwards; two sisters, Sarah Jones of Ridge Springs, SC, and Rosa Belle Martin of St. Peters burg, FL; one brother, Arthur Myers, West Hempstead; along with a host of loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
