 Obituary 
Deacon James Moment, Jr. was born in Columbia 
County, Georgia on March 5, 1948, to the late Mrs. Mary Willie Hicks Moment and the late Mr. James H. Moment. He departed this life on Friday, Januarys, 2006, at University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia. 
He attended school in Columbia County and graduated from Blanchard High School in 1967, and later joined the United States Army, where he served honorably for many years. After serving his time in the regular Army, he later joined the United States Army Reserve Center, where he retired after twenty years of dedicated service. His military career included tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict in addition to serv ing in Desert Storm. Deacon Moment received several Merit Awards for serving his country faithfully. Some of these awards are as follows: Army Commendation Medal - Desert Storm (1991); Certificate of Achieve ment (1990); Army Commendation Medal (1987) and Army Achieve ment Medal (1987) to name a few. He attended Augusta Technical School in 1977, where he received a diploma in Graphic Arts; Eastern Kentucky University in 1992, where he received his certification as a Registered Laundry and Linen Director. Deacon Moment was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital, where he retired as an Assis tant Plant Manager; he received numerous Performance Awards for his dedicated service. He later was employed at Solo Cup Factory as a Machine Operator. 
He was baptized at an early age and joined the First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, in which he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for many years. He was also a faithful member of the First Mt. Moriah Gospel Chorus. 
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Nellie Moment; daughter, Sheryl (Martin) Thomas of Augusta, GA; four sons, Maurice (Tammy) Sturgis, Christopher Sturgis, Charles (Christine) Lowery and Carl Lowery, all of Augusta, GA; seven sisters, Rupearl Gibson and Diane Evans of Harlem, GA, Mary Parks and Gloria (Bennie) Palmer of Augusta, GA, Annie (Randall) Collins, Linda (Willie) Finks of Martinez, GAand Brenda (Walter) Sturgis of Grovetown, GA; four brothers, An drew J. Moment of Augusta, GA, Joseph Moment of Jacksonville, FL, William H. Moment and Johnnie M. Moment of Harlem, GA; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one aunt, Ida Tyler of Wash ington, DC; goddaughter, Dianesha Denson; a devoted spiritual guid ance, Sister Dorothy Golatt; brothers-in-law, Freddie Williams and George Bell, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Bell, Katie Hicks and Deborah Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

We cannot walk in your path, for the road you traveled was wide. You touched the hearts of those you met, for you met them with a smile. And as you journeyed along the way, you left a warmth so dear. That memories of you remained, and the footsteps very clear. There is no way to say Good-bye, for you will be loved always. The special way you've touched our lives with your gentleness and caring ways. That certain smile, that look in your eyes, and the softness when you'd say, "Don't worry, everything is fine." More than you knew or more than we could say. But God has seen your promise and has called you to come home. Youve gone away to your Mothers embrace with God at the throne.
