Homegoing Services for Odell Matey Mayle Tuesday, October 13, 2009 1:00 P.M. Tabernacle Baptist Church 1223 Laney-Walker Boulevard Augusta, Georgia Dr. Charles E. Goodman, Jr., Pastor - Officiating Obituary Odell Batey Mayle was born on Mauge Street in Augusta, Georgia on February 2nd. She was the third of eight children born to the late Bertha James and Isaac Batey. Years later she met and married James Mayle and from this union they had a son, James Darrel Mayle. At an early age, Odell was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She loved her church and was a lifelong and faithful member. She was an active member of the Red Rose Auxiliary. In 2006, she was made a Mother of the church. Odell was a member of Tabernacles Retiree Senior Ministry group and participated in many of their activities. Odell was a proud graduate of Haines Institute and was a member of the Haines Alumni Association. She participated in the alumni group and attended most of their activities. Odell was also an ardent supporter of the Lucy Laney Museum. Odell worked for the Richmond County Board of Education where she retired as the Director of Food Services for C.T. Walker Elementary School. She was devoted to her work and enjoyed many years of serving the children. She was a lady of elegance and style, and was often admired by family and friends for her sense of fashion. And, her great sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted son, James Darrel Mayle of Augusta, Georgia; grandson, James Jay Darrel Mayle, III, of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Mayme Durant of Silver Spring, Maryland; one brother, Bland Batey of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Deborah McMillon of West Orange, New Jersey, Edward Fletcher of Augusta, Georgia, Shelia Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, Mignon (Martin) Morman of Atlanta, Georgia, Donna Durant (Howard) Atkinson, PhD of Silver Spring, Maryland, Michael Jenkins of Miami, Florida, G. Mark Jenkins, Maryland of Dallas, Texas, Myron (Janell) Jenkins of Atlanta, Georgia; and grand nephews and nieces, Roy Jerome Williams ot Miami, Florida, Nelson Williams and Christina Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, Angelica Morman and Alexander Morman of Atlanta, Georgia, David Atkinson and Dana Atkinson of Silver Spring, Maryland, Jalen Jenkins, Jamal Jenkins, Jalyiah Jenkins, and Javon Jenkins of Atlanta, Georgia; godchild, Phoebe Ann Ali; a loyal friend, Mozelle Bennett of Augusta, Georgia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
