CELEBRATION OF LIFE Reverend Martris Mims - Pastor - SUNRISE SUNSET MAY 20,1929 JUNE 19, 2021 Saturday, June 26, 2021 11:00 A.M. OLD STORM BRANCH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH 163 Storm Branch Road Beech Island, South Carolina Mrs. ^Rubena 4 zRemp T Want S 4ee IftiM As I journey through the land, singing as I go, Pointing souls to Calvaryto the crimson flow, Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within; But my Lord leads me on, through Him I must win. Refrain: Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face, There to sing forever of His saving grace; On the streets of glory let me lift my voice, Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice. When in service for my Lord dark may be the night, But Ill cling more close to Him, He will give me light; Satans snares may vex my soul, turn my thoughts aside; But my Lord goes ahead, leads whateer betide. When in valleys low I look toward the mountain height, And behold my Savior there, leading in the fight, With a tender hand outstretched toward the valley low, Guiding me, I can see, as I onward go. When before me billows rise from the mighty deep, Then my Lord directs my bark; He doth safely keep, And He leads me gently on through this world below; Hes a real Friend to me, oh, I love Him so. %der of Service Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have toldyou. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. - John I4:i~3 Reverend Elvie Bryant | Presiding SCRIPTURES Old and New Testaments Reverend Mickie Collins PRAYER Reverend Dr. Alfreddie Williams, Jr. SOLO Oh How I Want to See His Face Sister Francener Pressley REFLECTIONS Wesley Hightower | As A Deacon Sister Diane White | From The Family Sister Nichole Sanders | Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. How fitting that this freedom was granted on the first federal recognition of Juneteenth! Rubena Stoney Kemp was born on May, 20, 1929, in Dunbarton, South Carolina, as one of seven children to James and Lena Thompson Stoney. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: five brothers, James Stoney, Jr., Fred Hampton Stoney, Ted William Stoney, Archie Bob Stoney, and Wilbert Russell Stoney; and one sister, Nora Stoney Stallings. She was educated in the Barnwell County Public School System and graduated from Four Mile High School. She attended and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Claflin College, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and a Master of Arts degree from South Carolina State College, in Orangeburg. On June 27,1959, she was united in marriage to Oscar Lee Kemp, of Clearwater, South Carolina. They lived in Augusta, Georgia during the early years of their marriage before building what became their permanent home in Clearwater. They became the proud and adoring parents of one child, Catrina Kemp. Mr. Kemp preceded Mrs. Kemp in death on February 24, 2016. Rubena Kemp was a noted educator in the Aiken County Public School System, where she taught at Schofield High School, Jefferson High School (the majority years of her teaching career), Langley-Bath- Clearwater High School, and retired from Midland Valley High School after a near forty year career. She was an English and French teacher to hundreds of students in the Midland Valley area. At an early age, Rubena accepted Christ and was baptized. After marriage to Oscar Kemp, she joined Old Storm Branch Baptist Church, where she remained one of its most trusted and faithful members for over sixtyyears. Over the years at Old Storm Branch, she served God and the church in many capacities. Among these: a member of the Senior Choir (later renamed the Sanctuary Choir), the H.L. Harrison Gospel Choir, the Bicentennial Mass Choir, the Sunday School (where she was one of its most dedicated teachers for many years), the Memorial and Beautification Ministry, a charter member of the Deaconess Ministry (serving as one of its earlier presidents), the Willing Workers Society (later renamed the Old Storm Branch Missionary Ministry), the Pastors Aide Ministry, and the Old Storm Branch Child Development Center. She also faithfully served in one of the churchs outreach ministries, the Storm Branch Senior Group. During the 1950s, Mrs. Kemp became affiliated with the Yorkrite Masonic family, serving various female departments. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Star of the East, Chapter #1 - Order of Eastern Stars of North Augusta, past O.E. S. District Matron of Horse Creek Valley, a member of Simmons Court #518 - Heroines of Jericho of North Augusta, a member of Abneys Council of Crusaders #3 of Aiken, a member of Moores Court of Amaranth #2 of Aiken, and a member of Islam Court #4 - Daughters of Isis of Aiken. Her husband, Oscar Lee, was a very devoted brother and leader in the Yorkrite family, and she apparently felt the importance of being right there by his side. Among the other organizations of which Mrs. Kemp was affiliated was the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Lions Club. A loving mother and family member, an inspiration to all, a true pillar of the Clearwater Community, a devoted member of the church and other organizations - this was RUBENA STONEY KEMP! Tf $0Se$ If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mothers arms and tell her theyre from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, But theres an ache within my heart that will never go away. Mama I love you and Im going to miss you! You have been the inspiration in my life.
