M ildred JCouise Dunn {Jones Jn-Ketrospect Among the many inevitabilities we mustface on this-planet called Earth is the transitionfrom thephysical stance to the eternal restingplace a city called Heaven. Heaven is a prepared placefor a prepared people. Mildred Louise Dunn Jones was born on March 27, 1940 to the late Deacon and Mrs. James Henry (Willie Mae Lewis) Dunn, Sr. in Augusta, Georgia. Mildred Dunn Jones accepted Jesus Christ during her adolescence and remained fully and totally committed to her life and walk in the Lord. On October 2, 2011, this angel received her wings. At the time o f birth, Mildred joined five other siblings, two o f whom preceded her in death - Queen Elizabeth and Charles Dunn. Early in life, Mildred was converted and baptized in The Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church by the late Reverend A. Leon Lowery. As a matter o f fact, Mildred was introduced to Tabernacle by Deacon and Mrs. James L. (Richardine) Starks, Sr. As a youth, Mildred participated in many of the activities designed to enrich and instill the strong and virtuous principles of the Baptist doctrine. Mildred loved the Lord and she loved her church; so much so, that Mildred had over 55 years o f service in Tabernacle. As regards her educational acquisition, Mildred received her state high school diploma from Lucy Craft Laney High School in 1958. Mildred chose to matriculate at Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina, where she majored in Early Childhood Education. This served as the foundation for her phenomenal service to the Richmond County School System in which she touched and nurtured over 1,000 children's lives intellectually, sociologically and psychologically! Furthermore, it was due to her dedication and concern for children that she was honored twice as "Teacher of the Year" at Peter H. Craig Elementary School. After 30 productive and fruitful years, Mildred decided that she had given of herself to her noble profession and retired from the Richmond County School System in 1994. However, being the great humanitarian she was, Mrs. Mildred Dunn Jones chose to keep serving humanity-in her church, her community, her sorority and other civic organizations. She served in various capacities with: Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries, Golden Harvest Food Bank, Church Women United, Women's Civic Club, Jack and Jill o f America, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Zeta Xi Omega Chapter. In The Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church she served in several ministries: Sunday School Department, Vacation Bible School, Missionary Society, Culinary Ministry, Prayer Warriors, Tuesday Night Prayer Meeting Group. All marriages have a beginning. And it just so happened that Mildred and Mr. Willie Boykin Jones had their beginning in the Georgia Railroad Bank and Trust, which at that time was located on the corner o f Gwinnett and 11th Street. Not long afterwards, the two having fallen in love after several dates decided to become husband and wife and were married in the home of Mildred's parents on May 6, 1966. To this union, two ambitious and industrious children were born - Boykin Broderick and Judith Vonetta. Mildred and Boykin instilled within their offspring basic biblical principles and a strong work ethic to include "The Golden Rule." Mildred leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving husband o f 45 years, Deacon Willie Boykin Jones; two children, Boykin Broderick (Tanya) Jones, Roswell, Georgia and Judith Vonetta Jones, Augusta, Georgia; one sister, Martha (James) Hatcher, Bronx, New York; two brothers, James H. (Mamie) Dunn and Abram (Frankalene) Dunn, all of Augusta, Georgia; one grandson, Eric DuShune Jones, Roswell, Georgia; one aunt, Bertha McKinney, Augusta, Georgia; a mother-in-law, Bertha K. Jones, Augusta, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Dr. Audrey (Isaac) Wood, Augusta, Georgia; and a host of other in-laws, nieces, nephews, god-children, cousins and friends. "In the Word, it tells us to be servants, and I think it is very important that we give something back in our life time," Mildred Jones said. " It is rewarding and it is Christ-like because Christ: gave all that he had." Volunteer Mildred Jones helps give out food.
