Jones Sr. departed his life on Sunday, July 10, 1988, at Richland Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Saluda County June 9, 1913. He was the son of the late William and Maggie Jones. He was a member of New Salem C.M.E. Church where he served as a steward and a class leader. He was a member of the Masonic Pearl Chapel Lodge #118. He was owner of Jones ABC package store and Saluda Taxi Cab. He was married to the late Trudie Lott Jones. Surviving are three sons, John W. Jones, Jr., of Columbia, S.C., Mr. George E. Jones of Greenwood, S.C., Mr. Jessie G. Jones of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Cathy Jones Robinson of Saluda, S.C.; one brother, Mr. Tryis Jones of Washington, D.C.; six grandsons; three granddaughters; and three great grandchildren; 2 daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
