A Tribute To Our Dad 
He was our "DAD " God knows that is true, He wasfu ll o f laughter He never seemed blue. 
I f we had a problem, He always understood Never once did hefail To come to our rescue. 
Now he had hisfaults As we all do, 
But "D ad"was always There to be by you. 
The Greatest "Gift" That we ever had, Camefrom "GOD " And we called him DAD. 
So DAD, as you leave us, For a temporary time, 
We wanted just to say one last time: You were great and you were kind 
And we thank you for The love and memories that you left behind. 
The memories that you leave with us Are so very sweet, 
But then what a "Dad" And Oh! "HOW NEAT" 
So we say to all o fyou here today D on't be sad and don't be blue, Because ifyou knew our "DAD" 
He wouldn't want you to.

was bom November 25, 
 
1929, in Statesboro, Georgia. On Sunday, January 9, 2000, he 
 
journeyed to the gates of Heaven and answered the call of God 
 
At an early age, he was baptized at the First Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia. He joined Macedonia Baptist Church in 1963, where he was a dedicated member. He served as a Sunday School and B.T.U. Teacher, former Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, member of the Evangelistic Ministry and member of the Male Choms. 
 
On January 12, 1947, he married the lovely Lerlene Moore. To this union 6 beautiful children were born. 
 
John served in the United States Army for 30 years as a Infantryman and a Signal Communicator. He completed three tours in Germany, two tours in Korea and three assignments at Fort Gordon, Georgia. While serving in the Korean Conflict, he was wounded and received a Purple Heart, in April 1951. He also earned the Expert Infantry Badge and The Bronze Star. He held the position of First Sergeant with the 11th AD Signal Battalion, in Darmstadt, Germany. After a very rewarding military career, he retired in July of 1980, with many awards and decorations. 
 
John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia May 13, 1987. He continued to serve his country from 1981-1993 as a civil service employee at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He worked as an instmctor/writer in the Training Development Department for a total of 42 years of Federal Service. 
 
In addition to his loving wife, Lerlene Johnson; he also leaves to mourn: three sons, Ronald Johnson, Augusta, GA; Dr. John Paul Johnson, Hinesville, GA; and MSGT George A. Johnson, Seoul, Korea; three daughters, Gwendolyn J. Thurmond and Janice J. Calhoun, Augusta, GA; and Joy Johnson Caldwell, Charlotte, NC; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three brothers, Haroldine (Vera) Johnson, Dayton, OH; Willie James Johnson and George Pride, both of Boston, MA; sisters, Loretta Johnson Williams and Donna (Jerry) Humphries, both of Statesboro, GA; two uncles, John C. Brock, Philadelphia, PA and Solomon W. Brock, Statesboro, GA; one aunt, Maggie L. Brock, Philadelphia, PA; mother-in-law, Susie M. Prince, Statesboro, GA; three daughters-in-law, Joanne C. Jolmson, Cynthia Johnson and Harriett Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 
 
We are truly blessed and thank God for having such a wonderful father and grandfather. One day we will meet again.
