(ibttuarg The Reverend Grover Cleveland Jay was born on August 14, 1914, in Irvin County, Georgia. He was the second child of Lizzie and John Bunyon Jay. Reverend Jay received his secondary education at Monitor High School in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He attended Paine College and was awarded the Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1941. He then matriculated at Gammon Theological Seminary and was awarded the Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 1948. He has served as pastor and presiding elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church since December, 1941. He has served as pastor of the Churchhill Circuit, Webster and Lumpkin Counties; Scott-Mater Church. Americas, Georgia; Holsey Temple, Atlanta, Georgia; Flat Rock Circuit, Elbert and Hart Counties; and Trinity Church, Augusta, Georgia. He served as Presiding Elder for two six-year terms on the Holsey-Atlanta and Elberton-Atlanta Districts, respectively. Ilis memberships and affiliations have been broad and ecumenical in scope. He was a member of the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (Adult and Family Life Section). He was a member of the Georgia Council of Churches and the Georgia Council of Human Relations. He was President of the Augusta Clergyman's Association. He was a Master Mason. In his connection with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Phillips School of Theology of Interdenominational Theological Center. He served as a member of the General Board of Christian Education, and has been a delegate to the C.M.E. General Conference since 1950. He taught at Holsey-Cobb Institute in Cordele, Georgia; and he served as Director of Student Recruitment at Paine College from 1953 to 1963. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Paine College in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Mae Mitchell Jay; his son, Anthony Jay; his father, the Reverend J. B. Jay of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Messrs. Gertrude Hensley, Mary Anne Agnew, and Lilly Bell Verella, all of Cleveland, Ohio; six brothers, the Reverend L, W. Jay of Jefferson, Georgia; Dr. James Jay of Detroit, Michigan; Mr. Edward Jay of Macon, Georgia; Mr. J. B.
