% A SERVICE OF LOVE AND SACRED MEMORY for THE REV. ALBERT THOMAS HORTON, III Monday, February 20, 1989 - 4:00 P.M. ELIM BAPTIST CHURCH 2359 Mt. Auburn Avenue Augusta, Georgia ************ The Reverend Charles Smith, Pastor ** OBITUARY The Reverend Albert Thomas Horton, III, faithful servant of God, was the second of eight children born to Albert Jackson and Minnie Seals Horton. Early in life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Elim Baptist Church, the cradle of his spiritual nurture and growth. As a student at Haines Institutional High School in Augusta, Georgia, Albert was a noted football player, under the coaching of the late Mr. John Tutt. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 22 years, until his honorable discharge, with the rank of Master Sergeant. He met and married Bernice Kyler. To this union one daughter was born, Joan E. Horton. Bernice preceeded him in death. After leaving military service, Reverend Horton owned and operated Greater Detroit Home Products, a business which employed the youth of Detroit, Michigan, in door-to-door salesmanship. Albert Thomas Horton, III loved to fish, play golf, officiated at athletic games, and reminisce about the good times spent with his friend, who was like a brother, Arthur Davenport (aka: son/sporty-man). He also enjoyed participating in and working with his masonic order. He was a 32 degree Mason. In 1981, Albert Thomas Horton, III received the call to be a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1982, he was ordained to preach the gospel at Elim Baptist Church. He was called July 26, 1984 to pastor the Friendship Baptist Church in Appling, Georgia, where he served faithfully until his death. He was also active in the Baptist Ministers Conference of Augusta, Georgia, where he served as chaplain and on committees. On Friday, February 17,1989, Albert Thomas Horton, III received the highest and most blessed of all calls the call to occupy one of those many mansions his Master the Lord Jesus, went to prepare for him and to be with the Lord forever, where death, sorrow, crying and pain are nor more.
