THE OBITUARY Tell me not in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream, and the soul is dead that slumbers and things are not what they seem! Life is real - life is earnest - and grave is not its goal . . . For such works, my friends, were never spoken of the soul! On an autumn Wednesday in Lincolnton, Georgia, Septem ber 26, 1917, a blessing was bestowed on Mr. & Mrs. Ammie (Allie Fleming) Reid when their first child, Az&Yee Reid, was born. There were eight additional children added to their family. In the a.m. of March 19, 2006, the earthly life of a virtuous, God-fearing, indus trious, friendly and warm Christian lady came to a close. AZAREE became a Christian when quite a young lady and joined the Newberry Baptist Church and was baptized in August of 1929. She attended Macedonia High School in Blackville, South Carolina. Azaree met and married the late Earl J. Gunby on Octo ber 2, 1932. To this union four children were born, of which two preceded her in death. AZAREE served and loved her.Master. After moving to Au gusta, Georgia in 1941, she united with Greater Mt. Canaan Mis sionary Baptist Church where she served as President of the Pastors Aide Club, Chairperson of the Food Committee, member of the Senior Choir, President of the Mothers Board and other ministries. "Mur" as she was affectionately called by so many was a per son who showed love and concern for all she came in contact with. Even during her senior years, she was always available to lend a helping hand. All who really knew her, loved her. Azaree was highly respected by the people for whom she worked. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, a good neighbor and was admired throughout the community and surrounding area. She will be dearly missed by: her son, Earl (Reotha) Gunby; daughter, Teresa (Paul) Sullivan, of Augusta, GA; sisters, Mamie Lathan and Mary (Charlie) Barrow; brother, James "Jimmie" Reid, all of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, neph ews, sisters-in-law, cousin, other relatives, and friends.
