Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church Major (Ret.) Anthony Franklin was born on February I, 1952, to the late Bessie Wright Franklin on the Deovelent Community of Belzoni, Mississippi. He was the thirteenth of sixteen siblings. Known affectionately to his family W&t W and friends as Tony, Mississippi, PaPa, Poppie, Unk and Big Frank; HHflf he would answer to them all. He transitioned from this life on December 29, 2019. At an early age, he was an independent thinker and doer. He joined Mt. Avrette Methodist Church on Deovelent when all his other family members were Baptist Church worshippers. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and later became a member of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church. He faithfully served in various capacities (Elder, Deacon, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Usher, Chairman of Agape Ministry, Church Representative on the Board of Medical Plus and Assistant Treasurer). He worked diligently for the church. Whenever he was delegated a task, he worked fervently to get it done timely and correctly. He thoroughly enjoyed working on projects such as the Cotton Patch Soul Food Sunday during Black History Month, paving of the parking lot, updating the church accounting system but he especially enjoyed working with the Deacons and the Agape Ministry. He was united in marriage to Maudree Hines. From this union of forty years, he became the proud father of Anthony Terrell and Amber Danielle. He graduated from McNair High School and then matriculated to Mary Holmes College in West Point Mississippi, Paine College of Augusta, Georgia and Georgia Military Institute of Milledgeville, Georgia. He received a BA degree in Sociology from Paine and attended Officer Training at Georgia Military Institute where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Officer. Having a strong work ethic, he worked part time at JC Penny and joined the Army National Guard while pursuing his degree. After graduation, he began his managerial career with JCP, the GAP, United Parcel Services (UPS) in which spanned over twenty years. He was very proud of being store manager of the GAP when it opened in the Augusta Mall. At UPS, he began as a driver (although he had a college degree) and advanced to Supervisory to Time Study Observer prior to his retirement. While working full time, he continued his career in the Army National Guard. He advanced through the ranks until he achieved Major status. As the commanding officer of the 1148 Transportation Unit, he lead them to Saudi Arabia during the Desert Shield/Storm operation. He was exceptionally proud that ALL of his unit returned home. He retired from the military with over twenty years of service. While in active duty status, he earned numerous awards and ribbons. After leaving UPS, he pursued a career in entrepreneurship. He opened Bessies Child Care (named in honor of his mother). Through strong determination and leadership, Bessies has been successfully operating for over twenty years. He believed in sharing and helping others so annually he and his staff would hold a coat drive for the homeless and donate all fixings for a Christmas dinner to a deserving family. Many organizations recognized him for his philanthropic contributions. Working hard for what you achieved in life was his mantra and it was evident in everything he did and what he taught his family. However, he did find time to enjoy his hobbies of hunting, fishing, watching westerns and CNN. He would stay hours in the woods hunting for a rabbit, coon, deer or squirrel yet would only spend a few minutes waiting for a fish bite. Being impatient, he would say, well they aint biting today so Ill call it a day. 0^/eo (owed and ch\0Jied tub lamitjp. oJfa deiwitihakd tub Immo ^l^({jmmo(blkn^/Lnkg^(uid His memories will live on through: his wife, Maudree H. Say thank you, and great job to someone each day. Go to church, take time for prayer. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh. Let your handshake mean more than pen and paper. Love your life and what youve been given, it is not accidental ~ search for your purpose and do it as best you can. Dreaming does matter. It allows you to become that which you inspire to be. Laugh often. Appreciate the little things in life and enjoy them. Some of the best things really are free. Do not worry, less wrinkles are more becoming. Forgive, it frees the soul. Take time for yourself ~ Plan for longevity. Recognize the special people youve been blessed to know. Live for today, enjoy the moment. We, the family of Major (Ret.) Anthony Tony Franklin, wish to express our gratitude for the many prayers, and visits. We pray each of you receives an abundance of blessings for all the love you have shown to our family during our time of bereavement. We sincerely thank you! - The Franklin Family G. L.
