Elirn Baptist Church 2359 Mount Auburn Street Augusta, Georgia 4> O ' < \ (9 Dr. Charles E. Smith, Pastor Heman Augustus Floyd, beloved husband of Rosalyn Wright Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2004. Born December 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Mamie Goodwin Floyd and the late J. Hernandez Floyd. A younger brother, Marion Donald, preceded him in death. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. Floyd attended the public schools of that city and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School. He entered Morgan State College, now Morgan State University, and graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 1966. Upon graduation, Mr. Floyd accepted a position at the North Carolina National Bank in Charlotte, where he reported to Assistant Vice President Hugh McColl. Discovering an aptitude for banking, Mr. Floyd pursued graduate studies in business at the prestigious Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania from which, in 1970, he received the Master of Business Administration degree in Finance. Later in the 1970s, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Floyd served as a consultant for Brimmer and Company and for the Comptroller of the Currency. His banking career included the following positions: Commercial Lending Officer at First National City Bank (now known as Citibank), New York; Lending Officer at the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Washington, D.C.; and Second Vice-President at The Northern Trust Company, Chicago, Illinois. After his return to the South, he shared his expertise with the students at Benedict College (Columbia, South Carolina). In addition to teaching courses in Corporate Finance, he coordinated an internship program with the Equitable Life Assurance Company of New York. Selected students worked with the company during the summer months, and many of those students pursued graduate studies and subsequently earned senior positions in banks and businesses throughout the United States. All of this work was done on a volunteer basis. While working at Benedict, Mr. Floyd met and married Rosalyn Wright of Charleston, South Carolina. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Augusta, where Mr. Floyd volunteered his time with the students of Paine College during the years 1989-2000. Continuing a family tradition of community service, he worked as a board member with the Consumer Credit Counseling of the CSRA. A staunch supporter of his alma mater, Morgan State University, he served as treasurer for the MSU South Atlantic Alumni Association from its inception. He also held the position of treasurer for the Elim Baptist Church Summer Enrichment Program. Mr. Floyd was a member of Elim Baptist Church and the Golden Agers Club of Elim. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and a member of the Ambassadors Bridge Club. He enjoyed visiting with friends, playing bridge, and traveling. He was a man of impeccable taste - a man of strong and unwavering convictions.
