WILLIAM HENRY DIXONM , JR., was born November 12, 1921, to William Henry Dixon, Sr. and Janie Chapplear Dixon in Martinez, Georgia. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Anna Maria Rehab <St Nursing Center, North Augusta, South Carolina. 
He began his early education at Haines Normal and Industrial Institute in Augusta, Georgia. He completed his Bachelors of Arts Degree from Georgia State College (now Savam nah State University) Savannah, Georgia. 
William Henry served our country during World War II with the United States Army. After WWII, he moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked for the United States Postal Service. After more than thirty years in Chicago, William Henry returned home to Columbia County, Martinez, Georgia, where he reunited with his childhood church, Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Augusta, Georgia until his retirement. He was a member of Haines Alumni Association, National Alumni Association Savannah State University, the Augusta Chapter Alumni Savannah State University and NAACP. 
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, James Franklin Dixon and Paul Julian Dixon and two sisters, Carrie Bell Dixon and Janie Lenora Dixon (Matthew) Thompkins. 
His memory will be cherished by: his nephews, Matthew (Ruth) Thompkins, Paul L. Thompkins (his Guardian), Pierce L. Thompkins and Edwin A. Thompkins, all of Augusta, GA; nieces, Jannette Thompkins Sweeper, George Lillian Thompkins, both of Augusta, GA 
and Georgia Vivian Thompkins Worthen of East Point, G A ; a special great grandniece, Mikayla B. Sweeper; grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews and great grandnieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. 
A precious one from us has gone, , A voice we love is stilled, 
A place is vacant in our hearts, Which never can be filled. 
And after a lonely heartache, And many a silent tear, 
Always a beautiful memory, Of the one we loved so dear.
