 ** OBITUARY ** 
The Reverend Walter Lee Curry was born in Donavan, Georgia on January 31, 1911 to the late Mr. and Mrs. MitchellJ. Curry. After attending Forsyth State College of Forsyth, Georgia, he was married to the late Mrs Ernestine Battle Curry of Forsyth, Georgia. To this union were born the Reverend Dr. Mitchell J. Curry, Mrs. Greta Curry Butler, Ms. Carolyn I. Curry of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Waltine Curry Conley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 
When Rev. Walter Curry moved to Augusta in 1934 with his new bride, Ernestine, he taught adult classes and worked for the WPA until he opened the College Barber Shop on Railroad Avenue in Augusta in 1939. He served the community as a barber and director of the Barber College for more than forty years. 
He joined Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1934 and served faithfully as a member, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and a member of the Steward and Trustee Boards until he was called to the Christian Ministry in 1951 . He was married to Mrs. Willie B. Randall Curry in 1979. Rev. Curry was licensed to preach in 1951 , ordained as an Itinerant Deacon in 1952 and an Itinerant Elder in 1955. During his itinerancy he was duly appointed as pastor of the following churches: St. Luke A.M.E. Church, Thomson, Ga.; Mt. Tabor, Keysville, Ga.; Oak Park and Mt. Zion Circuit, Oak Park, Ga.; St. Mark, Wadley, Ga.; Tennile, Ga.; Thomas Grove A.M.E. Church, Claxton, Ga.; Spring Bethel A.M.E. Church, Louisville, Ga.; Harrison, Ga.; Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, Augusta, Ga.; Norwood Circuit, Norwood, Ga.; St. Paul, Vidalia, Ga.; and Hickman Tabernacle, Augusta, Ga. He was retired as an A.M.E. pastor in 1982 after his health began to fail. 
Reverend Walter Curry shall be remembered as a devout husband, father, barber, pastor and Christian gentleman who worked hard and kept the "common touch. " He touched many lives in this city and other parts of the country. He often went the extra mile to help others. 
Rev. Curry leaves to mourn a very devoted wife, Mrs. Willie B. Curry; one son, Dr. Mitchell Curry; three daughters, Greta Butler, Carolyn I. Curry and Waltine Curry Conley; three grandsons, Reuben Curry, David and Victor Conley; four granddaughters, Rachael and Michele Curry of Los Angeles, Calif., Sonja Curry Edwards of Hamberg, Germany and Ms. Germaine Conley of Oklahoma City; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene and Elmer Curry; one sister, Ms. Iris Curry Walters; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
