Church Pastor Kenneth Murray, Presiding CHARLES CHUCK THOMAS COOK, JR. was bom August 3,1955, to the late Charles T. Cook, Sr. and Gladys Cook, in Augusta, Georgia (Ft. Gordon]. He was the youngest and only son of three children. Chuck grew up in a loving Christian home where the tenets of our faith were taught and lived. On May 9,1964, when only nine years of age, Chuck joined Harmony Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia, under the leadership of the late Reverend Floyd Heard. He was a faithful member at Harmony and served in several ministries such as the Sunday school Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Beautification committee, and Deacons Ministry. He continued to serve as a faithful deacon at Harmony Baptist Church until his death. Chuck was educated in the Richmond county Public School System. He was a very proud graduate and active alumni of Lucy Craft Laney High school (Wildcats), Class of 1973. Chuck earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Business Administration from Paine College, Augusta, Georgia. While attending Paine College he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity (Epsilon Psi Chapter). Shortly after graduation, he began to make his mark in the working world". His first major job was a buyer for Belk store chain. He later changed his career path and was employed at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions ISRNS). Chuck was very dedicated to his job. He enjoyed 8RN8 so much that he decided not to retire at the thirty-year benchmark and continued to work. Chuck worked at SRN8 for thirty-five years. His plan was to retire in August 2020. While working at Belk, Chuck met the love of his life, Sharon R. Godbee. on July 1,1989, they were united in Holy Matrimony. Chuck and Sharon were a beautiful couple. They enjoyed thirty years of blissful marriage. Chuck, as he was known and called by everyone, enjoyed life to its fullest potential. He had an outgoing personality and a gift of hospitality. Throughout his life, he made many endearing and lifelong friendships. He never met a stranger and treated everyone as if he had known them for years. He was a man of fun and games. One of his most enjoyable past times was sports. He was a radical Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan, owning ALL of their paraphernalia and memorabilia. Chuck was also very passionate about officiating high school sports that included: basketball, football, softball and baseball. He was certified by the Georgia High School Association IGHSA], Augusta Basketball Official Association and Augusta Baseball Official Association (ABOA) as an official. He also enjoyed attending all local sporting events, cheering the players on while critiquing and coaching them for success. He leaves a legacy of love and memories to cherish with; a devoted and loving wife, Sharon Godbee Cook; a loving mother, Mrs. Gladys Cook; two sisters, Johnnie M. Riggins (Frank) and Phillippia Faust; mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen Godbee; three sisters-in-law, Gail Godbee White, Pamela Godbee and Dr. Elaine Godbee Lett (Earl); two godchildren, Brandeis White and Jada Mack; very special coworker and friend, Barbara Isom; and a host of other beloved nephews, nieces, relatives and dear friends.
