CHARLES CHUCK THOMAS COOK, JR. was bom August 3,1955, to the late Charles T. Cook,
Sr. and Gladys Cook, in Augusta, Georgia (Ft. Gordon]. He was the youngest and only son
of three children.
Chuck grew up in a loving Christian home where the tenets of our faith were taught
and lived. On May 9,1964, when only nine years of age, Chuck joined Harmony Baptist
Church, Augusta, Georgia, under the leadership of the late Reverend Floyd Heard. He
was a faithful member at Harmony and served in several ministries such as the Sunday
school Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Beautification committee, and Deacons Ministry. He
continued to serve as a faithful deacon at Harmony Baptist Church until his death.
Chuck was educated in the Richmond county Public School System. He was a very proud
graduate and active alumni of Lucy Craft Laney High school (Wildcats), Class of 1973.
Chuck earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Business Administration from Paine
College, Augusta, Georgia. While attending Paine College he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity (Epsilon Psi Chapter). Shortly after graduation, he began to make his mark
in the working world". His first major job was a buyer for Belk store chain. He later
changed his career path and was employed at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions ISRNS).
Chuck was very dedicated to his job. He enjoyed 8RN8 so much that he decided not to
retire at the thirty-year benchmark and continued to work. Chuck worked at SRN8 for
thirty-five years. His plan was to retire in August 2020.
While working at Belk, Chuck met the love of his life, Sharon R. Godbee. on July 1,1989,
they were united in Holy Matrimony. Chuck and Sharon were a beautiful couple. They
enjoyed thirty years of blissful marriage.
Chuck, as he was known and called by everyone, enjoyed life to its fullest potential.
He had an outgoing personality and a gift of hospitality. Throughout his life, he made
many endearing and lifelong friendships. He never met a stranger and treated everyone
as if he had known them for years. He was a man of fun and games. One of his most
enjoyable past times was sports. He was a radical Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan,
owning ALL of their paraphernalia and memorabilia. Chuck was also very passionate
about officiating high school sports that included: basketball, football, softball and
baseball. He was certified by the Georgia High School Association IGHSA], Augusta
Basketball Official Association and Augusta Baseball Official Association (ABOA) as an
official. He also enjoyed attending all local sporting events, cheering the players on
while critiquing and coaching them for success.
He leaves a legacy of love and memories to cherish with; a devoted and loving wife,
Sharon Godbee Cook; a loving mother, Mrs. Gladys Cook; two sisters, Johnnie M. Riggins
(Frank) and Phillippia Faust; mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen Godbee; three sisters-in-law,
Gail Godbee White, Pamela Godbee and Dr. Elaine Godbee Lett (Earl); two godchildren,
Brandeis White and Jada Mack; very special coworker and friend, Barbara Isom; and a
host of other beloved nephews, nieces, relatives and dear friends.
We all loin the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure, but, rejoice that he
is resting with the lord.
