" Born Mary Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Harper answered her call to the Almighty God on Tuesday morning May 16, 2011. She was born July 27,1929 as the daughter o f Constance Burke, and Claudia Mae Harper Jason in Augusta, Georgia. She was the wife o f the late Willie James Comb Sr. To this couple was born one daughter Mary Elizabeth Combs and one son Willie James Combs Jr. In addition to raising her children, she also raised three grandchildren John E. Slappy, Lionel Washington, and Billy Slappy. Mary accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at the Historic Springfield Baptist church by Rev. J. H. Sanders. She later joined the Springfield Gospel Choir, she remained a faithful member until she fell ill and was relocated to Hinesville, GA. She was also a member o f the Springfield Deaconess Ministry. She enjoyed being around family and friends and her presence brought lots o f laughter and joy. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Slappy and her brother Oscar Harper Sr. She will be remembered for her smile, sense o f humor and most o f all her love and kindness to her family and friends. Together lets "Celebrate in her Homegoing" and cherish those moments shared. She leaves precious memories to her son Willie James Combs Jr.; one aunt Dorothy W. Horne, sister in-law, Patricia B. Harper, her four grandsons, John E. (Pamela) Slappy, Lionel (Vivian) Washington, Billy Slappy; and Willie Walker; eight great -grandchildren, John E. (Kathy) Slappy Jr., Diane S. (James) Singletary, April S. Slappy, Lauren E. Slappy, Ayanna L. Slappy, Malik L. J. Slappy, Schelby N. Slappy, Octavia B. Slappy, three great -great grandchildren Dahlia C. Slappy, Janiha L. Singletary, Alannah A. Slappy, and a host o f nieces, nephews, cousins, god children and friends.
