Zion Benevolent Baptist Church Hopkins, South Carolina Reverend Charles Jackson, Pastor Reverend Harry Riley, Eulogist rJ/ie O&ituary ROOSEVELT "POPPEE" CARTER, JR., was born in Hopkins, South Carolina on September 19, 1940, to Rosa Bell Sims Carter and the late Roosevelt Carter, Sr. On Tuesday, October 30, 2001, Roosevelt peacefully entered into eternal Rest. Roosevelt was educated in the public schools of Richland County attending Hopkins Elementary School, and graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1958. After graduatiing Roosevelt began working for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, where he worked at Ft. Jackson Army Post and Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina. His work took him to McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida; Anderson Air Force Base, Marianna Islands, Guam, where he served four years; Shepherd Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1993, Roosevelt moved with his family to Orlando, Florida, where he later retired. Upon retiring from AAFES, Roosevelt was cited for his "commitment, loyalty, perseverance, and service through the years". To his family, Roosevelt represented strength and togetherness. He was married to Margaret Robinson. He had a sense of humor that personified him to the highest extent. He loved to tell jokes. He was always happy, personable and approachable. Initially, Roosevelt would be quiet - until he got to know you - then his joking personality would shine forth. Roosevelt always spoke his mind. A quiet disciplinarian, he was always there for his children. He always listened to them and gave them advice; however, he never pressed his personal beliefs on any of them. Home and family were the most important aspect of his life. Though the presence of one so dear is no more, precious memories are left with his wife, Margaret; his mother, Rosa Bell, children, Evon Bernard (Bridgett) Carter, Christopher T. (Mary) Carter, Tracey Carter, Chrisandra Carter-Simmons, KaPonda (Robert) Telford, Roosevelt "Joey" (Mena) Carter, Margaret (John) Harris and Eric Jeter, Felix German, and Steve German; his sisters, Francis (Edward) Gallman, Rebecca (Ben) Finch, Sarah Davis, and Eugenia Anderson; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Roosevelt was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Jackson. Our Family Chain We little knew that morning, God was going to call your name, Our little angel baby from heaven, in life we loved you dearly. In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone, for part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, You are always by our side, Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. . . ufdte O rd e r o f cSe ro ic e Reverend Charles Jackson, Officiating PRELUDE PROCESSIONAL HYMN `It Is Well'' Choir SCRIPTURE................................................ Virtue was: Happiness, joy, home, games and glee! Everyone knows that you showed what is real care-- Lovingly you watched over your family, Telling tales and jokes to make them laugh and smile. Courageously, you walked your life's path ... Always happy, emitting strength all the while: Rather showing quiet discipline, than parental wrath, Truth and knowledge you gave through the example you set.
