 Obituary 
On Monday, November 30, 1992, my dear loving and belove husband, Thomas Wendell Carr, Sr. departed this life. 
Thomas was born September 25, 1928 to the late Lottie and John Carr in Cleveland, North Carolina. 
He attended public school in Rowan County and united in Holy Matrimony with Eleanor Knox. 
Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 24 years. He received many awards and honors to include a Purple Heart for Combat-Korean War. He served overseas, Germany and several years at Fort Gordon, Georgia. While at Fort Gordon, he was a military policeman and handled various assignments throughout the Augusta area. He retired from the military at Fort Gordon and made Augusta his home. He was employed by the Augusta Police Department and was the first Black detective in Augusta. He attended the prestigious criminal investigation school at Fort Gordon, Georgia and numerous other schools and training seminars. Detective Carr was the recipient of the Policeman of the Year Award. He retired from the Augusta Police Department in August of 1991, after 22 years of dedicated service. 
He joined the church at an early age and continued to work faithfully. He served on the Deacons Board at Greater Mt. Canaan and worked in the community with family and friends and was well loved and respected as Sgt. 
His survivors include his beloved wife, Eleanor P. Carr; two sons, Michael E. Carr of Atlanta, Ga. and Edwin W. Carr of the home; one foster daughter, Robyn White of Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Hazel Biggers of Charlotte, N.C., Gladys Winston of Salisbury, N.Y. and Margaret Carr of Cleveland, N.C.; three brothers, John F. Carr, Presley Carr and Roy Carr all of Cleveland, N.C.; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
