She graduated from Central High School in St. Louis in 1979 and went on to attend a local college. Renee joined the United States Army in 1981, as a Chaplain Assistant Specialist, STATIONED AT FORT GORDON, GEORGIA. IN 1984, SHE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED, BUT REMAINED AT FORT GORDON, WORKING AS A CIVILIAN FOR PAN AM SERVICES. WHILE AT FORT Gordon, she met the love of her life, Byron Byrd. They got married on April 5,1986, AND WERE MARRIED FOR OVER THIRTY-THREE YEARS. IN DECEMBER OF 1994, THEY WELCOMED THEIR ONE AND ONLY SON, BRIAN BYRD. After marriage, Renee received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. She started her professional CAREER AS A MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER. LATER, SHE RECEIVED A MASTER OF EDUCATION DEGREE in School Guidance and Counseling from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. After graduation, she accepted a position as a Middle School Guidance Counselor. While working as a Guidance Counselor, she received her Education Specialist degree in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Renee loved working with young people. In her caring, humble and direct MANNER, SHE HELPED MANY STUDENTS REALIZE THEIR GIFTS, TALENTS AND POTENTIAL. SHE RETIRED IN 2019 FROM THE RICHMOND COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM AS A FIlGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE Counselor at A.R. Johnson Health and Science Magnet School. Renee was called to the ministry while in Virginia. It was then that she and her HUSBAND ANSWERED THE CALL OF GOD TO COME TO AUGUSTA, GEORGIA TO FULFILL THEIR PURPOSE WITHIN THE MINISTRY OF PASTOR MlLLARD F. BYRD. WHILE WORKING FAITHFULLY in the Ministry of World Outreach Evangelistic Church, she became an Elder and was the Founder and Coordinator of Women of the Word (W.O.W.) Ministry. Her PASSION AND MISSION WERE TO EMPOWER ALL WOMEN THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD BY PURSUING THE HEART OF GOD AND PUTTING HlM FIRST. HER DESIRE WAS FOR W.O.W. TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GOD TO RELEASE CREATIVE ABILITIES AND THE GIFTS THAT He HAS PLACED IN EACH ONE OF US. Renee was preceded in death by a brother, Eric McClendon, two sisters, Kathy Mason and Stephanie Long and grandparents, Sylvania and Martha French.
