CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF " 1936-2017 " Virginia Brockington Bush, the wife of Dr. Robert Bush, and the daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Josiah B. Brockington, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Virginia was a native of Charleston, South Carolina. She was the sixth child of the Brockington Family. She graduated from the Historic Avery High School in Charleston, South Carolina. She attended South Carolina State College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. She also received her Master of Science degree in Music Education at the renowned School of Music at Indiana University (Bloomington). In her numerous years of work experience she taught at George T. White Elementary School in Columbia County and numerous schools in the Richmond County School System. She retired from the Richmond County School System in 2000 with forty years of experience. For several years after her retirement she continued her passion of music by teaching independent piano lessons to hundreds of talented students. The Henry Brigham Recreation Center was the primary location where she dedicated her love of teaching music, Mr. Russell Joel Brown was one of her exceptional students. He has toured the globe as a singer/actor/dancer in various Broadway musicals. Virginia was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., The National Association of University Women, Georgia Association of Educators and The Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a resident of Augusta and a devoted member of Moses Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a musician for the Senior Choir and Male Chorus. She also supported The Historic Union Baptist Church in Augusta. Outside of working in her organizations, she enjoyed planting flowers, connecting with her grandchildren, and spending time with her extended family. Virginia was preceded in death by her father, mother, and two brothers. She was married to Dr. Robert B. Bush, Jr, for fifty-six years. She had four children, Ovanual Bush, Devant Bush, Tujuana (Ronald) Wiggins and Tyra (Michael) Epps; five grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Sydney, Robert, Mya and Lauren; brothers, Dr. Johnny Lee Brockington, Dr. Benjamin (Wilhelmina) Brockington and Richard (Barbara) Brockington; sisters, Louise Hosey and Alethia (William) Starke; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
