Psalms 27:1 EVANGELIST GEORGIA BENTLEY BRYANT was born in Lincoln County, Georgia, February 15,1911, to Lelar Bentley Fouch and the late Willie Bentley. She departed this life peacefully from Temple University Hospital on Wednesday morning December 31, 1986. She attended elementary school in Lincoln County, Georgia. At an early age she was converted and baptized at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. G.W. Harrison. She was active in many activities in the church. She was united in holy matrimony with Joseph Bryant Sr., in Burke County, Georgia. To this union was born three children, Willie Mae, Joseph Jr., and Nathaniel. She united with Palmer Grove Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. R.L. Calhoun. She participated in all activities of the church. She moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1941, where she united with the Good Samaritan Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. E.A. Brown. She was president of the Gospel Chorus and Evening Star Gospel Singers. In 1953, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She immediately united with the New Bethlehem Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. James F. Scott, pastor, who has since retired. Evangelist Bryant became a member of the Gospel Chorus, serving as the president for many years. Her activities included member of the Missionary Society, Helping Hand Club, Chairman of Mission In Action, Chairman of Circle Six, Willing Workers Club, Scott's Inspirational Chorus, Sunday School Teacher, Revival Choir, Past Chairman of President's Council of the Pennsylvania State Convention, First Secretary of the National Loyal Boosters of N.B.C., Inc., Member of Eastern District Women's Missionary Union, Member of Keystone Association, Board Member of the Dorothy Pearson Singers, and a Member of the Florence Broaddus Choral Chapter. (continued back page) OBITUARY (continued) Evangelist Bryant always wanted to obtain a High School Diploma. She returned to the Benjamin Franklin High School, attending night classes. She also attended the Manna Bible Institute and graduated on June 8, 1962. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin on January 23, 1974. She also attended Jameson Bible College, where she received her B.A. in Theology. She was licensed and ordaned in 1979 by the Jameson Evangelistic Association. Evangelist Bryant loved her church and her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert Scott Jones. She prayed for him and encouraged him whenever she had the chance. He lovingly called her Mom, as we all did. She loved the Lord and witnessed for Him to all she came in contact with. She was a sweet sweet "Mother" to us all at New Bethlehem. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but she left a great legacy of Love and Joy for us to cherish. She leaves to cherish loving memories: three children, Willie Mae Bryant, Nathaniel, and Joseph Bryant Jr.; her mother, Lelar Fouch of Augusta, Georgia; five sisters, Mattie Searson, Alice Strong, Helen Johnson, Belle Gilbert of Augusta, Georgia, Virginia Gunby of Detroi, Michigan; two brothers, T.B. Bentley of Piseataway, New Jersey, Fred Bentley of Detroit, Michigan; three step-sisters, Carrie Ramsey, of Hartwell, Georgia, Rosa M. Brown, of Washington, D.C., Ida Pearl Edmonson, of Alexander, Virginia; two step-brothers, Robert Fouch, of Atlanta, Georgia, Floyd Fouch, of Augusta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Teresa, Joey, Lois and Larry; six great grandchildren, Sharia, Shaye, Kobe, Tonya, Poruche and Andre; six sisters-in-law, Lillie Bentley, Belle Bentley, Geneva Bentley, Rosa L. Bings, Jenny Campbell and Alice Welcher; four brothers-in-law, Myerse Searson, Gordon Gundy, Rev. Johnny Bryant and James Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends.
