for life late Clara ^nramnta Thursday, June 12, 1986 1:00 P.M. New Tabernacle Baptist Church Lincolnton, Georgia Rev. Irvin Norman, Officiating Assisted by Rev. Tommy Lee Blackwell On June 9, 1986, the angel of silence came into the hospital room of Mrs. Clara Simmons Beard and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of our loving wife, mother, and sister. Her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of eternal rest. There are some lives that disappoint us, some impressions of character which we have to revise in later years, but the impression that was form ed of Mrs. Beard when you first met her remained unchanged to the end of her life. She became a Christian when quite a young lady, and joined the New Tabernacle Baptist Church and spent more than 45 years in the Masters service. She gave freely of her time, her contribution, and was always willing to do anything that she felt would help for good, in any way. Mrs. Beard was not selfish, hence she felt that she needed someone to go by her side and enjoy whatever she might accumulate in life, so she married Mr. Thomas A. Beard. To this union, six children were born. Mrs. Betty Jean Grant, Jamaica, N.Y.; Mrs. Shirley Ann Faison, Fayetteville, N.C.; Mrs. Sarah B. Zellars, Lincolnton, Ga.; Thomas Ray Beard, Fayetteville, N.C.; Jesse Beard, Akron, Ohio; Donnie Beard, Fayetteville, N.C. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Mae Emma Kennedy, New York, N.Y., Mrs. Ella Cathey, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Nathan Bussey, Lincolnton, Ga., Jesse Simmons, Charlotte, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three aunts, two uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. To this family, she was loving and faithful, and strove to make them comfortable and happy. She taught her children to be God-loving and God-fearing and that to be a Christian is one of the greatest things in life; and to know her children, you will find that they ever remembered her teaching. As long as she was physically able, she also attended Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church, where she joined under Christian experience. Whenever she was able she came to Tabernacle with her family. But now this laborious, devoted, trusted and faithful lady has finished her course, having been in this world for more than 60 years. We have noticed her bowing recently under the weight of years. She had to suffer only a short time, when she was stricken from us, and when all was over, a great voice from the skies welcomes her as the voice says, Servant of God, well done.
