Jones asserts the success of his play Thy Will Be Done, presented the previous evening in Jacksonville, Florida. He describes the plot as tragic, composed of scenes of sadness, love, and religion. Jones reports that the play had the entire audience in tears twice, almost on their feet with expectation, and amused by the moments of humor. He declares the play to be his "greatest triumph" and announces his intention to put it on tour with the same local cast. Jones asks Douglass to let him know when he can show the play and urges him to respond immediately with his terms.
