The letter responds to Jennings' proposal to hold a boxing match at the Douglass Theatre (see dbr001 of the Douglass Theatre Web site). Stein proposes to Jennings that he will pay the boxing promoter fifty percent of the receipts and the cost of advertising the fight. He informs Jennings that he will have to pay for the preliminaries out of his own money and complains that putting on fights is bad for his business. Stein reports that the fighter he would like to feature, "Battling Jim," is supposed to be the best in Macon. He argues against cancellation of the fight in the event of low attendance, and asks for Jennings' word that the fight will occur as scheduled. Stein asserts that if Jennings agrees to his terms, he can consider this letter a contract, and proposes to hold the fight on July 26.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2005, as part of Georgia HomePLACE.
