Dear Sir]
[written text: I find your letter of the 3rd inst [instant] awaiting me upon my arrival from Norway this evening when I mailed you a letter to-day [today]. In regard to the claim of the Hand Co. [Company] I shall not send any money to meet it, and if Mr. Trimble does not send any money to pay it [added text: the property] must go to sale unless you raise the money and pay it yourself as you said you would when I left in which case I will secure you upon all the property of the Cincinnati Co [Company] [added text: including Mr. Trimble's notes subject only] [added text: to the payment of Mr. Howells claim.] In case it does go to sale be sure that the $45 that Mr. Hall put on the bill [added text: for lawyers fees] is not allowed and then that only the mill and not the

boiler and engine is sold: for the lien upon which they sue covers I suppose only the mill upon which Mr. Hall did work. He did no work whatever upon the boiler & engine. I should think the machinery was ample security for the debts and if it goes to sale I hope you will try to get as much for it as possible. I believe that there is a payment due [added text: soon] on the house that Mr. Williams lives in. If he makes the payment you can use that money towards the Hand claim and if he does not then sell the house and furniture at once. What is Mr. Williams doing for a living if the mine is not running. I suppose Mr. Trimble is worth something. How is that? Has he his store yet. Does he ever say anything about paying the notes. When they become due I want you to collect them if he has anything to pay with. Have you the necessary papers to commence suit on them. If not let me know what is wanting so that I may send it to you. When I say sell only the mill I mean if it is like to go for a mere song do not let any more than that go in for the Hand claim but if any one [anyone]

wants to buy the whole property if it is only for enough to pay the debts sell it. If you cannot make any arrangements to pay the Hand claim perhaps it would be well to write Mr. Trimble that he must pay it or it will go to sale,]
