Page: [1] Columbus. Ga. [Georgia] Jan 25 /68. Col. [Colonel] Wier [Wier] Boyd. My Dear Sir. I received a letter recently from Mr. Peck in relation to our Saw Mill. asking if it would do to sell saw mill seperate [separately] from Engine. -- I advised against it unless he could first engage sale of Engine -- He spoke also of hauling it to Atlanta for sale; that would not pay unless sale was made first -- It will sell along towards Spring to some new Company. I asked Col. [Colonel] Peck to Consult you as far as my interests were concerned in sale of mill & any decision you make will suit me & there is no use of losing time writing me -- if we have to sell at a loss we must do so -- & I offer to divide pro rata profit or loss -- you know my interest is larger than Pecks -- mine is [deleted text: about] $9 [deleted text: 50] [added text: 45].& his $755. Mine is represented 945/1700 part of sale price -- Those 2 timber carts will be slow sale -- Mr. Harris or Col. [Colonel] Wing may like one at $40. they cost the Co. $100. -- Mr. Peck writes me he has had the mule turned over to you; which is all right. I suppose you will find him useful -- if so I would not care to sell him as he will do for me to ride Page: [2] next Summer -- but if you prefer selling him for $90. or $100. do so -- towards ploughing [plowing] time he would sell well, for he is a nice little mule & capital in a buggy. -- I left with Mr Kilgo a note of F. M. Williams for $90. which is past due & if not paid please ask Mr. Kilgo to let you have it -- as I think in your hands there will be better chance of getting it -- if Williams sees you with him he will probably hurry part payment at least fearing that I will sue him. -- Mr. Peck writes me he has turned all my traps over to you -- Did you get the set of "double harness" with the iron axle wagon? -- it was an excellent set -- There was also a wood axle wagon besides the 2 timber carts -- Mrs D. is well & joins me in kind regards; Remember us to Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph. Believe me Yours truly [Signed] Amory Dexter. [added text: P.S. I wish you to receive & take charge of all funds for me from sale on my a/c [account] -- & if you wish power of Atty. [Attorney] send blank to me & I will sign as full a one as you want.]
