Page 12 Due in Early '541 New DC-7's for Fastest Finest Air Service to Miami 362 mph Speed, Sound Reduction, Cabin Pressurization Featured Delta-C&S, pace-setter in air travel to Miami, will top its own record for speed and luxury with the introduction, in 1954, of that new queen of the airlanes - the luxurious new DC-7 airliner. The first of ten DC-7's now on order is expected to enter service in early February at the peak of the winter air-travel season. Others will follow throughout the year. Widely hailed as the crowning achievement of the famous Douglas series, the new DC-7's will enable Delta-C&S to intro- duce the fastest schedules ever offered between Chicago and Miami, and an even higher standard of comfort aloft. Advanced New features Cruising speed of the new airliner is a streaking 362 miles per hour, with a top speed above 400. Power is derived from four Wright engines of the latest turbo-compound type, devel- oping a total of 13,000 horsepower. Engine exhaust drives turbines which are geared to feed power back into the crank- shaft. Exhaust noise is drastically reduced by the turbines and coupled with new cabin sound-proofing makes this the quietest large plane ever manufactured. Seating arrangements provide for 69 passengers. All seats are two abreast-no triples. Like every other plane in Miami service; the DC-7 has a pressurized cabin for operation high above the weather. At 25,000 foot altitude, you fly with a comfortable cabin pressure equivalent to only 8,000 feet. Air-conditioned comfort at its finest is provided by the DC-7. Whatever the temperature outside, you'll be comfortable in draftless cabin air that stays in the pleasant 70's-air that is also perfectly humified. Even when the plane is on the ground in summer, cabin air is comfortably cooled by the DC-7's own system. Like its flying twin, the famed DC-6, the DC-7 includes a spacious sky lounge at the rear of the aft cabin for cards and conversation. Casa Blanca terrace at Montego Bay, Northwest Jamaica, adjoin s famous Doctor's Cave Beach. In '54, Day and Night Service to Montego Bay, Jamaica Delta-C&S services to the Caribbean are being expanded in December with the addition of a daily Super Convair round- trip flight, New Orleans to Havana. Four days a week- Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday-the flight will continue to Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Ciudad Trujillo, Dominican Republic, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Then, in January, will come a further step-up in service. Three days a week-Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday~the Convair flight to Havana will continue to a brand-new terminal just being completed in Jamaica at Montego Bay. The above flight is in addition to the existing evening Constellation flight from New Orleans to Havana, continuing to Kingston (Montego Bay in January) and Caracas. Winter Package Vacations Announced for Caribbean Prior to their merger, Delta Air Lines had pioneered in the Miami summer package vacations and C&S Air Lines had initiated a similar promotion in the Caribbean. Now the con- solidated package vacation department has a most impressive list of vacation trips, winter and summer, and an invaluable background of experience with hotels, sight-seeing and excur- sion facilities at every stop. The value of the package arrangement is, of course, in assuring hotel accommodations to coincide with plane arrivals and departures, and having agents on the lookout for specific arrivals at the airports to handle transfers to hotels. In cases where sight-seeing is included, the excursions have been sur- veyed and only the most reputable operators are used. In some countries it is part of the fun to sample the wide variety of good restaurants available and vacation package rates are, therefore, on the European plan. In others, the local living situation revolves so completely around the hotels that rates are on the American, or all-inclusive meal plan. Page 1-3 The magneiism of Miami Beach can be felt for a thousand miles. 1953-4 Winter Schedules Offer New Peak of Miami Service Heralding a winter travel season of record-breaking prom- ise, Delta-C&S Air Lines currently is offering the greatest volume of service in its history between midwestern points and the resort areas of Florida and the Caribbean. Highlights of the expanded schedules include: Eight daily flights between Chicago and Miami. Three daily DC-6 non-stops between Chicago and Miami. An economy "Thrift-Trip" linking Chicago and Miami via Cincinnati, effective December 16. Stepped-Up Schedules, Luxury Equipment The expanded winter schedules offer luxury standard-fare service planned to fit almost every possible individual require- ment as to departure and arrival time. For earliest possible arrival in Miami, at 2:00 p. m., Delta- C&S offers an 8: 00 a. m. Constellation from Chicago with just one stop at Cincinnati. There are luxury non-stop DC-6's at 10:00 a. m. and 1 :00 p. m. and also a DC-6 OWL aircoach non-stop at 11: 59 p. m., all on a four-and-a-quarter-hour schedule. The daylight non-stops are especially attractive to sub- urbanites whose problems of packing and getting to the airport vary widely. Something new this season is the early evening "Thrift- Trip" DC-6 at 8 :55 p. m. which is at regular fare Chicago to Cincinnati (required by C. A. B. at this hour) but at Air Coach fare from Cincinnati non-stop to Miami. Arrival is at 2:55 a. m., which still allows time for a fair night's rest at a nearby terminal hotel before proceeding to the Beach in the morning. Cost is only $7 .60 more from Chicago than regular coach fare of $50.30.
