On June 29, 1910 Dr. Idleman was elected president of both Gammon and Clark University. In 1912, near the end of the two-year period of the two institutions operating under a single administration, the Board of Trustees elected Dr. Idleman as a president of Gammon Theological Seminary, making it necessary for Clark University to find a new president. In 1869 Clark College was founded by the Freedman's Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It was named for Bishop Davis Wasgatt Clark, who was the first President of the Freedman's Aid Society and became Bishop in 1864. In 1877, Clark College was chartered as Clark University. In 1988 Clark University and Atlanta University combined to form the Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. Gammon Theological Seminary was founded in 1883 by the Methodist Episcopal Church.
