- Description:
- The objective of this study was to provide a culturally relevant parenting program to a group of African American parents in order to determine if there was a relationship between the experience in the program and changes in attitudes among participating parents. A descriptive comparison design, consisting of a pretest and posttest, was used in this study. Results of the pretest indicated some parental strengths, but these fell below the norm for that group's population. Comparison of the posttest with the pretest indicated seme overall increases in parental competence. The study was an attempt to provide a clear understanding of the effectiveness of a culturally relevant parenting program for African American Parents to Social Workers who work with this population and initiate interest in further research in this area.
