 Rev. Woodrow Williams, Jr. (Woody) was born on September 28, 1950 in the small farming community of Daisy, Georgia. He grew up in Saint Luke Baptist Church and became a Junior Deacon at an early age. 
Rev. Williams graduated from Evans County High School in 1968. Rev. Williams was number four in his high school graduation class. He attended Savannah State College and graduated in 1972 with a B.S. in Math and Physics. In July of I972, he became employed with Georgia Power Company and served II years as an engineer, the first African American to hold such a position in the Macon Division. Rev. Williams accepted his call to the ministry in July of 1982. His ministry started under the guidance of the pastors of Stewardship Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and Beulah Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. 
Rev. Williams felt it was time to become professionally trained so he enrolled in the Interdenominational Theological Center (I.T.C) in 1984. He completed his Masters of Divinity degree with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling in 1987. He continued his education by completing a year of advanced Clinical and Pastoral Education at Emory University. 
In 1988, Rev. Williams accepted a staff Chaplain position at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia where again he was the first African American to serve in that position. He relocated back to Atlanta in 1989 to begin training as a clinical supervisor at Emory Hospital and as a youth minister at Kelley Chapel United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia. 
Rev. Williams was appointed as Senior Pastor of Kelley Chapel U.M.C on October 1, I989. Once again, him being a pioneer, he was the first African American to pastor the church. While there, he led the Kelley family in "burning the mortgage", paving the parking lot, and obtaining a church van. He served in this appointment for eight years. 
On January I, 1998, Pastor Williams was appointed to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough, Georgia as the senior pastor. He led the Wesley Family in a $2.13 million dollar building project that yielded a new 27,000 square feet church facility. This structure was dedicated on February 16, 2003. While at Wesley, Pastor Williams enrolled in the Doctorial program at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in 2006. 
 
On June 24, 2007, Pastor Williams was appointed the senior pastor of Hoosier Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Hoosier, he helped lead in the development of the Visitation and Membership Care Ministries. 
Pastor Williams retired from the United Methodist Church in June of 2010. During his pastorate, he chaired and served on numerous boards and committees in the community and within the U.M.C. North Georgia Conference. Several men and women answered their call to ministry under his leadership with at least ten currently serving as pastors. His ministry carried him to Central America in 1993 and to the Holy Land in 1994, 1996, and 2008. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and served as the President and Chaplain of the GSA Golf Association. Pastor Williams was currently serving as a Hospice Chaplain for Camellia Hospice in Lawrenceville, Georgia. 
Rev. Woodrow Williams departed this life on Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded by: his parents, Deacon Woodrow & Edna B. Williams; and his brother, Winford Williams. He leaves to cherish wonderful memories: his daughter, LaSonja Williams Milton (Joe), McDonough, Georgia; two sons, Melvin Jorell Williams, Charleston, South Carolina and Marcus Jahmeel Williams, Seattle, Washington; one granddaughter, Tekeysia Alston, McDonough, Georgia; two grandsons, Devon Milton, McDonough, Georgia and Zion Michael Williams, Charleston, South Carolina; one brother, Rev. Johnny Levant (Bertha), Daisy, Georgia; three sisters, Carrie Bryant, Claxton, Georgia, Rev. Dr. Patricia Robinson, Claxton, Georgia, and Pearlene Hall (Jeffrey), Savannah, Georgia; one uncle, Levy Williams, Yorktown Heights, New York; two aunts, Alma Alexander, Cleveland, Ohio and Catherine Brown, Daisy, Georgia. 
For 2 7 years, Rev. Williams was married to Lorena Jordan Williams, Atlanta, Georgia; mother-in-law, Melissa B. Jordan, Burgaw, North Carolina; one brother-in-law, James K. Jordan (Shirley), Wilmington, North Carolina; and two sisters-in-law, Alice J. Smith (David), Burgaw, North Carolina and Melvena Jordan, Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
