Happy New Year! 
 
I am writing this letter with mixed emotions. On one hand, I am happy because few 
 
people can say that they have served faithfully in the work of the Lord for 52 years. On 
 
the other hand, I am saddened because we will miss your leadership as Regional Director 
 
for the Young People's Department. However, I do recognize that after so many years of 
 
diligent and outstanding service to our Convention, you are entitled to a moment of 
 
relaxation. So, on this note, I say congratulations for your many years ofdedication and 
 
commitment to GMBC. 
 
 
 
As the Sixth District pause to pay tribute to you, it gives me great joy to express appreciation to you and to offer words of commendatiott and encouragement. This does not mean that you will take a back seat, nor that you will be released from impll1ing and 
sharing the wealth of knowledge that you have acquired over the years. We stiU expect to see you at the meetings, taking an active pan in the work. We love you. 
 
We thank you, Sister Williams. for all that you have done in the past, for wbaa you are 
now doing and for what you will do in the fUture to ensure the continued arowth and 
pro&ress ofour ife&t Convention.

 A LIFE TO BE REMEMBERED 
111 am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."

In time of sorrow it can be consoling to reflect upon how our lives have been enriched by the love we have given and the love we have received. Sweet it is to have known and loved a dear on than never to have had this experience at all. 
Friday morning, September 12, 2003, an angel of the Lord came to Mrs. Artelia T. Williams and transported her from this life to sweet rest and fellowship with the saints in her new home - Heaven. Without turning back to bid us farewell, she crossed into a land that is fairer than day. 
Born in Macon, Georgia, April 2, 1916, she was the fourth of seven children born to the late Andrew and jessie Spivey Turner. She lived all of her life in Macon. She attended the public schools of Bibb County. She was a graduate of the American Baptist Theological seminary of Nashville, Tennessee. 
 
 Acknowledging the need for Christ in her life at a young age, she joined the Vineville Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. W.M. Phillips. She served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Later in her adult life, she united with the Saint Luke Baptist Church. 
Her Christian work began in the old Georgia Baptist Convention and the Middle Georgia Association. He work in the Master's vineyard continued over a span of fifty-three years. Her years of Christian service were highlighted at St. Luke as she served as Vice President of the Deaconess Ministry, a Sunday School teacher, Directress of the Youth Department, Vice President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, and a member of the Willing Workers Club. She was appointed by the late Moderator, E.S. Evans, to organize the youth department of the Middle Georgia Orthodox Association. She worked in this capacity for twenty-six years. She served as Middle Georgia Regional Young People's director of the General Missionary Baptist Convention, staff member of the Congress of Christian Education and administrative advisor for the Young People's Department ofGMBC. Through the years she received numerous citations, awards and certificates for loyal, dedicated and committed service. In 2002, she was recognized by the GMBC for her long years of service. In her Christian service she brought a deep sense of commitment and genuine love. She assumed each responsibility with eagerness, joy, delight, understanding and happiness. She considered all people a wondrous creation of God and infallibly labored with them in many ways. She was indeed a part of God's plan, making a difference in the lives of others. To know her was to love her. She was an active member in every respect at Saint Luke, the convention and association. In April 2003, she was bestowed the honor of "Church Mother". 
"Miss Artelia", as she was affectionately called, devoted herself to people. She inspired, encouraged and uplifted the lives of many. She will live on in the hearts of children and adults alike. Her smile, kind words and spiritual strength, just her presence, made a difference. 
She was married forty-five years to the late Deacon Frank W. Williams, who preceded her in death, September 14, 1990. 
Her life will always be remembered and memories forever cherished by her loving daughter, Dr. Beverly W. Glover (Dr. Walter, Jr.); a caring grandson, Sgt. Walter V. Glover, U.S. Army; one great-grandson, Master Damyon Maurice Glover; one sister, Mildred T. Larmaillard (Maurice) of Columbus, Georgia; a special son, Rev. William Smith ofAtlanta, Georgia; a foster son and daughter, joseph and Thelma Willis of Macon, Georgia two devoted niece-daughters, Patricia T. jackson and Betty T. Howell, both of Macon, Georgia; three nieces, Candice T. Gordon of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mary T. Hurt, Opalika, Florida, and jessie M. Warren of Ohio; one sister-in-law, Rachael T. Kellam of Macon, Georgia; one cousin-daughter, Evelyn H. (LoVett) Hood of Atlanta, Georgia; three great nephews she reared as her own, S/Sgt. (Retired) Desmond (Wanda) jackson ofWarner Robins, Georgia, Darryl (Anita) jackson ofWashington, D.C. and Dwayne (Rosita) jackson ofMacon, Georgia; several cousins, among them are, Susie S. Lawrence of Macon, Georgia and Marion Hixon of Terre Haute, Indiana; her longtime friends include, Evelyn P. Glover, Minnie Middlebrooks, Bessie Orrington, Ola B. Hall, Willie Stallworth, Lula M. Lewis, of Macon, Georgia, Della Pinkston, Ethel Henderson and Esther Smith, all of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary P. Murray of Fort Valley, Georgia and Rose C. Dozier of Hawkinsville, Georgia; two adopted daughters, Martha Cousins of Macon, Georgia and Ann H. Ashe of Lithonia, Georgia; adopted son, Willie Hill; her cherished prayer partners, the St. Luke Baptist family; and many, many friends.
