BEN HILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 2099 Fairburn Road, Southwest Atlanta, Georgia 30331 Reverend Byron Thomas, Senior Pastor Reverend Lavell Sanders, Officiating Lewis "Bunk" Watson, Jr., 79, departed this life on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was a native of Atlanta, a true "Grady" baby, born to the late Lewis and Mattie Lou Watson, Sr. He was the oldest of five siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Arnet Watson. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1953. He was active in the alumni association and enthusiastically attended alumni events. After high school, Lewis was drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. Lewis was baptized at an early age at West Mitchell CME Church in Atlanta, Georgia. He married Lola Moorman from Wrightsville, Georgia, in October 1962 and to this union had four children: Lori, Brian, Gerald and Kim. Lewis and his family joined Ben Hill United Methodist Church on March 21, 1976. Lewis retired after 45 years of service from Lockheed Martin as an Aircraft Mechanic. He exemplified a great work ethic that inspired his children to always be dependable and perform their best. He kept busy after retirement driving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to school, appointments, and daily trips to the convenience store. He also attended the many cheerleading and gymnastics competitions, dance recitals, and sporting events of his kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and relatives and friends. Lewis loved to drive. He enjoyed staying up late watching the History and Military channels. He had a great sense of humor and was very giving. He was always only a phone call away when he was needed for last minute pick-ups and errands. He held a wealth of knowledge and could expound upon any subject. During his brief illness, he never gave up the will to live. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Lola; two daughters, Lori Watson Dillard and Kimberly Watson Greer of Atlanta, Georgia; two sons, Brian (Stacie) Watson of Schaumburg, Illinois and Gerald (Deborah) Watson of Huntsville, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Pierre, Kenya, Alexis, Kayla, Lamont, Gerah, Alyssa, and Zyan; four great-grandchildren, Zaria, Zayden, Zarrell, and Brittany Emeri; brother, Donald Watson of East Point, Georgia; sister, Patricia Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Connie Watson; brothers-in-law, John Moorman of Plainfield, New Jersey, Herschel Moorman (Amery) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Prince Moorman (Dorothy) of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Walter Henderson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
