OBITUARY 
R. D. SUTTON, the seventh child of Lucillius and Mary Sutton, was born in McDuffie County, Georgia. At age 9, he joined ~Iount Carmel Baptist Church in Thomson, Georgia during the pastorate of Rev. G. W. Harrison. Because of his deep love for his church and his sincere admiration for his pastor, he adopted the name Reverend. 
He attended Atlanta public schools, Morehouse College and extended his theological training in Boston, Massachusetts. 
He was a veteran of World War I. 
Reverend Sutton joined Friendship Baptist Church shortly after the family moved. to Atlanta. and was very active in Sunday School and B. T. U. Afterthe death of Dr. E. R. Carter, he was acting pastor of the chur~h until t:he calling of Reverend Maynard Jackson as pastor. 
For several years Reverend Sutton conducte<l evangelistic services. He was called to the pastorate of Dixie Hills First Baptist Church in August, 1945. The results o~ his work, preaching and pastoring, were soon evident in the growth of the church spiritually and materially and in the esteem with which his members and the community held him. He was influential in the development and progress of the entire Dixie Hills area. 
Reverend Sutton was married to Miss Victoria Simmons of Madison, Georgia on June 30, 1947. Since that time his loyal and devoted wife has been constantly at his side in all of his religious and civic activities. 
Besides his wife, Reverend Sutton is survived by four children, Mrs. Doryse Edison, Clifford E. Sutton, Reverend R. B. Sutton, and Mrs. Elynore Hudgins; five sisters, Mrs. Lillie Payne, Mrs. Fannie Jones, Mrs. Daisy Hearst, :M:rs. Hattie Reid and Mrs. Annie Mae Wilkes; 15 grandchilqren, 8 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. 
He was a very warm-hearted man; He believed in living according to God's ph~n. 
Leading his people with the help of his Master, He called "Dixie Hills" the friendly church with a 
friendly pastor.
