WILLIAM LEO SPIKES, JR. (July 29, 1949- August 2, 1999) 
William Leo Spikes, Jr. was bam July 29, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia to 1Villiam and Christine Spikes. He received Christ as His Lord and Savior at a young age at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. 
Leo attended Thomas Oliver Elementary School and graduated from C. L. Harper High School in 1967. As versatile as he was in high school, he was awarded an Athletic Scholarship in Football to attend Kentucky State University in Ftankfort, Kentucky, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 1972. 
Leo manied Joanne Sheppard Spikes of twenty-eight years and to this union one son was born, Darian Leo Spikes. 
Upon graduation, he was an agent for the National Life Insurance Company. Shortly thereafter Leo was employed by Kentucky Flied Chicken Inc. Dwing his tenure at Kentucky Flied Chicken, Inc., his position was Store 1VIanager which was the beginning of his vision to become an entrepreneur. In preparation of implementing that vision, he became an Area 1\1anager and Dist1ict 1\1anager for Kentucky Ehed Chicken, Inc. In 1988 his vision became a reality whereby he owned his first Kentucky Fned Chicken Franchise in Fayette, Georgia. 1-Iis success later allowed him to acquire a second franchise in Peachtree City in 1991. During this time, Leo had received numerous awards. I-Ie was named Employer of the Year; Certificate of Completion in business management frmn Emory University &hool of Business Administration; President's Award from Kentucky Flied Chicken for the 11.1ost Increased Sales and Customer Service; several awards for Outstanding Profit and Sales in QSC; and several awards for Area 1v1anager of the Nionth from Kentucky Flied Chicken, Inc. 
He was active in his community in Fayette County where he served on the Fayette County Chwnber of Commerce. He contributed significantly to numerous public and private organizations in both Fayette and Fulton Counties respectively. William Leo Spikes, Jr. can best be re1nembered as a faithful, loyal, dedicated and hard working man, but most of all, he was a devoted husband and father. On August 2, 1999, the Lord called William L. Spikes home to rest from his labor. 
Those who remain to che1ish Leo's memory is his wife, Joanne Spikes; his son, Darian Leo Spikes; his sister, Mrs. Cynthia Smith; brother -inlaw, Mr. Wesley Smith, a devoted niece; La'Tes Monique Smith; father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Freddie L. & Gladys Sheppard; sisterin-laws, Ms. Phyllis Brooks; sister and brother-in-law, Elder & Mrs. Odell & Schenita Barnwell, Jr., and two close friends, cousin: Dr. Calvin Wayne McLarin and Mr. Milton Sanders; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
