James attended Booker T. Washington High School. He was a member of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church and worked for T.R. Miller Mill Company as a fork-lift operator for 30 years. James was preceded in death by one wife, Ella Smith, a sister, lillie Ruth Johnson and two brothers, Walter Smith and Ted Smith. He leaves to mourn his departure and cherish his memories nine children, Donald (Tiffany) Smith, Tina (Willie) Smith, Randy (Vickie) Smith, Keith McConnico, Ronald (Patricia) Smith, James McConnico, Stephanie Smith, laVonda Jenkins, all of Brewton, Alabama and Tonja Odom of Pensacola, Florida; a wife, Deborah Smith; three step-children, lawanda (larry) Odom, Aronette Thompson and Misty Thompson, all of Brewton, Alabama; a loving mother, Ruth Smith of Brewton, Alabama; a mother-in-law, lillian Thompson of Brewton, Alabama; one brother, Willie (Rena) of Milton, Florida; two sisters Katherine Smith and lois Smith, both of Brewton, Alabama; twenty-nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one aunt, Mildred Allen of California; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
