Singleton and reared by the late Sophie Witter, was born November 1, 1922, 
in the Tulifinny Community of Coosawhatchie, SC. 
 
She received her education in the Jasper County public schools. At a very early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior, was baptized and became a member of the Rosemary Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board and later on the choir. She loved to sing and she and her sisters formed the "Singleton Sisters", and spread the gospel through songs throughout the lowcountry. 
I She met and later married Henry Lewis Orr. She moved her membership to Lovely Hill Baptist Church, Ridgeland, South Carolina to be with her husband. After the death of Mr. Orr, she transferred her membership to Israelite Baptist Church, Lady's Island, where she sang on the choir. She met and married Herman Smalls and was a loving and devoted wife until his death in 2001. 
 
Her favorite pastime was fishing. She made her living as a cook at Holly Hall Plantation, worked at Blue Channel Seafood Factory, Allied Department Store and as a homemaker. 
 
Mrs. Smalls was the mother figure to many in the community. Many of those that she took into her home where she loved, nurtured and fed them. She was a very dear, trusted friend to many who count it a blessing to have known her and are truly indebted to her for the love and kindness that she unselfishly gave. 
 
On Saturday, May 25, 2013, Mrs. Smalls entered into an eternal slumber at 
 
~ her residence on St. Helena Island.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Vincent, Arthur, Nathan, Jack and Harold; sisters, Rosa Lee Pringle and Daisy Bell Jones; grandchildren, Teyanna Smalls and Derek 
 
Anton Harvey. 
 
Those left to cherish and honor the great memories her life created are

caring friends including two very devoted friends, Ms. Ethel Green and Ms. ~ Irene Shipman; and a very devoted spiritual daughter, Apostle Joann Orr.
