Winn, Sr Officiating Reverend J. Alberta Bostic Olive Eulogist ~ Bettye Baldwin Pledger, 79, died peacefully in her home in Atlanta, GA on September 9, 2009. She was the only child of the late Julius Battle and Ida Mae Harrell of Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of two she moved to Atlanta where later she began her love of singing by joining church and school choirs. She graduated from David T Howard High School in 1948. After graduating, she married her first husband, the late Robert Baldwin with whom she shared seven children. She later was married to Charles Pledger who also preceded her in death. Bettye was a homemaker for many years while at the same time sharing her joy of singing while performing with several choirs in Atlanta which included the Choral Guild of Atlanta, the Atlanta Community Chorus, the Quality Living Services Choir, numerous church choirs ana twice with the London Symphony Orchestra. She studied to be a paralegal, worked for the Spelman College Children's Dance Program and Eastern Airlines where she retired in 1984. She also loved to act and was an extra in several movies, and enjoyed acting in plays with Spelman College, the Fulton County Arts Center, and the Horizon Theatre Company. She was a tailtwister of the Atlanta Metro Lions Club and was a Queen Mother of the Ebony Elegant Ladies in Red Hats at the Darnell Multi Purpose Center. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Baldwin, Jr. and Brett Baldwin. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, two sons, Dr. Vincent Baldwin and Kenneth Baldwin (Crystal); three daughters, Marvette Baldwin Jenkins (Michael), Wendy Baldwin and Erin Heidi Fitzhugh (Joseph); five grandchildren, Vincent Ian Baldwin (Peta-Gay), Thava Baldwin Ross, Marques Baldwin (Brittany), Nia Fitzhugh and Taliah Fitzhugh; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
