Dovie Touchstone Patrick was born in Atlanta, Georgia on the 
 
campus of Clark University where her father was a Professor of 
 
Greek, Latin and Chemistry. Dovie was the first of three daughters, 
 
Bennie Ruth Mullens and Mildred Elizabeth McFarlin, born to the 
 
union of Bertha Mae Yarbrough and James Herbert Touchstone. 
 
Dovie received her elementary, secondary and college education 
 
in Little Rock, Arkansas. She received her college degree from 
 
Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas, and her Library 
 
Science degree from Atlanta University School of Library Science. 
 
Archival certificates were received from The Society of American 
 
Archivists Basic Archival Conservation Workshop (Historically 
 
Black College and University Archival Professional Development 
 
Grant, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities), 
 
Boston, Massachusetts; the Emory University Annual Archives 
 
Institute Workshop, Atlanta, Georgia, and the United Negro 
 
College Fund, Inc. (UNCF) Archival Training Workshop, Atlanta, 
 
Georgia . 
 
She was employed as Librarian at Clark College from 1944 until 
 
1982. While there she served in several capacities. She was 
 
Marshal for the Platform Party from 1960-1982, was appointed by 
 
the President to organize the Curriculum Materials Center Library 
 
and was cha irperson of the Self-Study Resources and Facilities 
 
Com mittee. She was a member of the National Council for 
 
Accreditation of Teacher Education, 1979-1981, the Higher 
 
Judiciary Council, 1980-1983, and was cha irperson of all social 
 
activit ies at the College. She became the Archivist Librarian at the 
 
A t lanta University Center, R. W . Woodruff Library from 1982 until 
 
her death. 
 
Dovie was an active member of The First Congregational Church 
 
where she served as an Usher and was a member of The Social 
 
Club, The Servettes and The Mission Society. 
 
She was a member of The American Library Association, The 
 
Society of American Archivists, The Society of Georgia Archivists, 
 
The Gate City Day Nursery Board of Directors, The Atlanta Chapter 
 
of The Moles, Inc., The Atlanta Chapter of the Circle-Lets, The 
 
Utopian Literary Club, The Joymen Wives Club, The Raggedy Ann 
 
Bridge Club, The Koffee Klatchers Bridge Club, and Delta Sigma 
 
Theta Sorority, Inc. 
 
Dovie is survived by her husband, James Antonio "Alley Pat" 
 
Patrick, Sr.; two children, James Antonio Patrick, Jr. (Deborah 
 
Lum-Patrick) and Janice Angelyn Patrick Williams (Paul G. 
 
Williams); five grandchildren, Paul G. Williams, Jr., James Antonio 
 
"Tony" Patrick, Ill, Briana Lum-Patrick, Janice A'Leah Williams, 
 
and Patrick Philip Touchstone Williams; sister-in-law, Nora
