" E cclesiastes 3:1-2 Walter Calhoun Moore, Jr., was the second of the four children of Queenie L. and Walter Moore, Sr. He was born on July 31, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he resided for virtually half of his life. He married the former Florence Davis, and, in 1976, they moved to Atlanta. Walter moved to his heavenly home on August 5, 2011. '1 havefought agoodfight, I havefinished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7 Walter's life exemplified commitment to the teachings ofJesus Christ. He was baptized and united with the St. Marks Presbyterian Church in Cleveland during his youth. After moving to Atlanta, he affiliated with the United Methodist Church first joining Ben Hill UMC, and later Cascade UMC. At the former, he served as President of its United Methodist Men's auxiliary. At the latter, he served as a member of the Men's Usher Board as long as his health permitted. He was a faithful and dutiful member of these various congregations. 'Whatsoever thy handfindeth to do, do it with thy might." Ecclesiastes 9:10 Walter was educated in the Public Schools of Cleveland from which he was graduated in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army serving in World War II and he was honorably discharged. Walter began his civilian work life with the Cleveland Waste Department, and, ultimately, he progressed to the position of Department Superintendent. He later became an entrepreneur with various businesses in both Cleveland and in Atlanta, respectively, which included ownership of the Camp Creek Day Care Center from 1978 to 1985. He retired in 1998 from employment with Flash Courier Service. Walter was much appreciated for his gregarious, outgoing personality. He was well-known for his flamboyant wardrobe and fashion style; for his outstanding bowling skills; for his showy dance steps; and for his business acumen. Walter devoted considerable time to his bowling passion primarily through the League where he served as both a team member and as an instructor. In 1980, wife Florence became a member of Charms, Incorporated, a national cultural, social, and civic organization whose spouses are affectionately known as "Charmers." For over thirty years, Charmer Walter actively participated with and supported the organization, its activities, and its programs at both the local and national levels. He will be greatly missed by many throughout the United States. '73/essed are thry that mourn: for thry shalf be comforted." Matthew 5:4 Walter is survived by a loving, devoted wife of forty years, Florence Moore; three children, Sandra Ashley of Lithonia, Georgia, Keith Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kenneth Davis of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Traci Benthly of Lithonia, Georgia, Cherrica Pulley, Darrel Ashley, Felecia Davis, Kenneth Davis, Charles Davis, all of Cleveland, Ohio, Camille Neal of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Marlin Davis who is currently stationed at a US Army Base in Germany; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Akil Shakur (ne Kenneth Moore) of Cleveland, Ohio; two goddaughters, Shelley Arnold of Compton, California, and Leslie Cowan of Merritt Island, Florida; godson, Avery Moss of Austell, Georgia; special cousin, Willie "Bubba" Moore of Detroit, Michigan; lifelong friend, Rupert "Bob" Crawford of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of other family members and friends. Walter was preceded in death by one son, Mark Davis; by an infant older brother; and by his only sister, Mildred Moore Inman.
