Ecclesiastes 7:1 Mr. Melvin Meadows was born in Atlanta, Georgia at Grady Memorial Hospital on June 30, 1947. Melvin and his twin brother, Marvin, were the ninth and tenth children of the late Mr. Buster and Grace Meadows, Sr.. They were also the youngest of three sets of twins. He was better known to many family members as "Payday." Melvin was raised in the Summer Hill community and at a young age joined John Alexander Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church where he participated in Sunday School. He was also an usher, a member of Sons of Allen, and a member of the youth choir. Melvin was educated in the Atlanta Public School System. He attended Daniel Hector Stanton Elementary School and Luther Judson Price High School. He was a competitive athlete and loved sports. Melvin participated on the Luther Judson Price High School basketball team. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1965. After graduating from high school, Melvin and his twin brother were drafted into the United States Army. It was during this time he began his electronic training. After serving a tour in Vietnam, he returned with an honorable discharge and continued his electronic education at Atlanta Technical School. There he completed the two year program in Electronics with the second highest Grade Point Average. Melvin married his loving wife Evelyn on June 27, 1980. The importance of family was instilled in Melvin by his parents at a very early age. He and his loving wife continued to embrace these values by welcoming family and friends into their home and always being there for their families when needed. Melvin and Evelyn enjoyed cruising, dancing, and entertaining. He had a genuine love of music, especially jazz. Melvin began his professional career at the Honeywell Information System Field Engineer where he was a faithful and loyal employee of twenty years. His employment ended after Honeywell relinquished the Information System Division. It was during this time he discovered his entrepreneurial spirit and he and his wife opened the Meadows Oak Street Laundry in West End Atlanta. He later began employment with Cleveland Electric Company for eleven years and became a Certified Electrician. He retired in June 2009, after which he once again tested his entrepreneurial skills by starting Melvin Meadows Electrical Service &:: Services Yes (MMESSY) which is still a viable electrical company servicing the Metro Atlanta area. As a natur~l athlete, Melvin enjoyed basketball, baseball, and tennis. He was committed to giving back to the community, believing for much is given, much is required. He was a leader in his community and enjoyed mentoring youth. Melvin was known throughout DeKalb County for being one of the best coaches and was fondly known as "Coach". He believed that all youth should have the opportunity to compete in sports regardless of their skill level because it builds character. He coached a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, and tennis. His love of coaching expanded over three decades. Melvin coached basketball at M Mark Trail in Decatur, Georgia for six years leading them to the E Championship for three consecutive years. His interest in tennis is where he developed a lifetime friendship with leroy Neal and L v Charles Shanks. Melvin turned tennis into a long term hobby, I coaching and playing tennis for most of his life. Op_ Saturday October 6, 2012, Mr. Melvin Meadows was called home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Buster and Grace Meadows, Sr.; one son, Williams A Richard Watts, Jr.; three brothers, Buster Meadows, Jr., Waymond D Meadows, and Robert Meadows; and one sister, Julia Bailey. Q w Melvin leaves to cherish his memories: wife of thirty-two years, Mrs. S Evelyn Meadows; son, Derek Matt Davis; two grandchildren, Syrr'Pauhl Watts and Nia Davis; four brothers, Raymond Meadows (Mary), Marvin Meadows, Donald Meadows, and Alfred Meadows (Venus); four sisters, Grace Chapman, Amanda Holland, Gwendolyn Meadows, and Helen Handsford; mother-in-law, Olivia Mitchell; two special sisters-in-law, Hendra Meadows and Dr. Rogsbert Phillips-Reed Qunius); sisters-in-law, Shirley Meadows and Marian Boyd; brother-in-law, lorenzo Bailey (Deborah); mentee, Howard Glass; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The Last Love Letter Melvin, it has come to the point in my life where I have to say good/bye, or should I say good/bye for now. All the good times...all the bad times... oh so many memories I have to cherish. You were not only the glue which kept us together, but you also kept me grounded. As you would always say to me "Be happy wife, that you can control.". What I will miss the most is your kind demeanor and your way of seeing good in everyone. I will miss you everyday. I am grateful for being your wife of32 years. So many memories.
