Wright Dining Hall imJtlediately following interment Obituary Eva Mae Patterson McKenzie, a loving wife, nurturing mother, devoted church member and friend, died on Monday, April21, 1997. She was born to the union of the late Charlie and late Carrie Patterson on November 18, 1910, in Perry, Georgia. On May 20, 1929, she was united-in ~oly Matrimony to John Wesley McKenzie, Sr. and to this union was born sixteen (16) children. She was an avid and faithful church worker who toiled willingly and relentlessly as a member of Turner Monumental A. M. E. Church to lift up the Narne of Jesus. She served as a Mother of the Church, Vice-President of the Stewardess Board for a number of years and an active participant in devotional services. She was not a person to rest on her laurels. She was the essence of motherhood. She reared and nurtured her children with love, affection and Christian principles. Mothering her children was not enough, she mothered countless neighborhood children, providing them with food, shelter, love and guidance. Her creativity, imagination and talent extended to her volunteer work witli ~eniors that included cooking, washing, cleaning and sewing for others. She leaves to cherish her memory: a dedicated husband, John W. McKenzie, Sr; a sister: Mattie Patterson Sanders; daughters: Carrie Hodge of Kansas City, Mo., the late Cynthia . ,' cKe.nzie, Celesta Spivey (James), Careatha Daniels, Arleatha McKenzie, Mamie Rogers (Star) and Mary Laverne Mitchell (James) all of Atlanta, Ga.; Carolyn Cainion and Dorothy Nlerrell of aeon, Ga.; sons: Monroe McKenzie (special friend, Mamie) ofAtlanta, John, Jr. (Hiawatha) , Curtis McKenzie, Joseph McKenzie, Bennie McKenzie (Vera) and Kenneth McKenzie (Etta) all f Kansas City, Mo. and the late Calvin McKenzie(Edith); thirty-five (35) grandchildren, fifty-four (54) great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and fri nds.
