Winn, Sr., Senior Pastor Officiating Precious Bernice Crittendon Hughes Martin was born to the late Owen and Alma Crittendon on August 5, 1927 in Atlanta Georgia. At a young age, she joined Antioch Baptist Church under the late Reverend D.T. George. She later joined Wheat Street Baptist Church. Precious was joined in Holy matrimony to Ophel Calvin Hughes, and to this union was born one daughter, Carolyn . Mr. Hughes preceded her in death at the young age of 42 years of age. She later married Charles Martin who also preceded her in death. She was raised in Atlanta, Georgia where she attended E.R. Carter Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School-she graduated after her junior year. She went on to attend and graduate from Apen School of Cosmetology. Later she attended and graduated from Slayton Business College. Then Precious received Bachelors degree from Morris Brown College the same year her daughter, daughter graduated from high school. This phenomenal woman went on to graduate from the University of Georgia where she attained a Masters degree. Some of her jobs and accomplishments included: teacher, Atlanta Public Schools and Cobb County Schools; manager over five housing projects for Atlanta Housing Authority; Deaconess and teacher at Wheat Street Baptist Church; Certificate of Recognition for Dedicated Service as illustrious Comandress of Imperial Court Daughter of Isis; Recognition for Outstanding Service Naber Court; Illustrious Comandress and Deputy of The Oasis; Noble Service for twenty years in a Crusade to conquer Cancer; and a member of Delta Iota Phi Lamda Sorority. During the early morning of July 10, 2012, Precious' mission was complete and she slipped from our grasp and into the arms of the Lord. She leaves a legacy of love and will always be cherished in the thoughts of her daughter, Carolyn Golar and granddaughter, Kenya Golar Elliot. Also devoted to her are nieces: Susan , Sherry, and Linda Willingham , Jackie and Gayle Crowder all of Atlanta Georgia, Janice Crittendon of San Francisco, and Rita Scott of Arkansas; nephews, Larry and Calvin Lawton, Kenny Daniels, Walter and Charles Willingham, Garland and Michael Jordan all of Atlanta, Georg ia; cousins, Ronald, Dale, and Viola Johnson, Regina, Camilla, and Vanessa, Daughters of Peggy Andrews, and Eddie Vaug hn and family; also, Napolean and Calvin Arnold and family. She also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends. Precious was preceded in death by brothers Melvin and Olen Crittendon, and sisters Ossie Lee, Mozell, Catherine, and Artie Crittendon.
