 Vivian Ann Lightning was born March 10, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born to the late Walker and Aruella (Russell) Lightning. She was the eldest of eight children. She was a graduate of Carver Comprehensive High School (Class of 1955, Atlanta, Georgia). She earned an Associate's Degree in Cosmetology. Vivian worked as a dispatcher for High Point Cab Company for 15 years. She was also a member of Welcome Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, under the leadership of the late Reverend Walker. She was known to everyone as "Bu or Bugarette". 
Vivian's hobbies included cooking, playing cards, word puzzles, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

On the night of Monday, December 8, 2014, God saw fit to call his child home to rest. She is preceded in death by Audrey Higgins (sister), Helen Garder (sister), Bobby Lightning (brother), Joe Garder (brother), Anthony Thurmond (son). 
She is survived by siblings; Annie Oimmy) Harris and Aricka Lightning (sister), Melvin Russell (brother); children: Mary Ann Turner, Benny Frank Thurmond, Dale Renee Lightning Oeff), Shirley Denise Drew, Micheal Lightning, and Michelle (Robert) Whitner. She is the grandmother of seventeen, the great-grandmother of fifty, and the great-great grandmother of four. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
