She was the daughter of the late Erastus C. and Maggie V. (Ashe) Smith who relocated to the Atlanta area from Harris County, Georgia. She had one brother, Henry Lee Smith (U.S. Navy veteran), who preceded her in death on January 4, 1982. She grew up in the old 4th ward of Atlanta and graduated from Washington High School. She was employed by Crawford Long Hospital, Lovable Bra Company, and Scripta Pen Company. Her legacy as a loving mother and grandmother was demonstrated as she continued to care for her family after the deaths of her husbands, Benjamin Jackson and Elijah Jones, and while losing her eyesight. She will long be remembered as a kind, giving woman, who put others first, while going through several health .challenges. Mary's oldest son, Benjamin Kenneth Jackson (Patricia), went home to the Lord on May 9,2011. She leaves behind four daughters, Jacquelyn Smith-Thrasher, Karen Jones (Gregory) Barnes, Stephanie Jones, and Patricia Jones; son: John T. (Becca) Jones; ten grandchildren, Sherry (Robert) King, Angela Thrasher, Regina (Robert) Dowell, Jasmine Jones, DeAndrea Crawford, Andrew Jones, Tiara Jones, Marquez Barnes, Antonio Jones, and Dennis Washington; seven great-grandchildren, Carlton, Tyler, Corey King; Alexis Webb, Michael Harley, Nicholas Thrasher, and Jaida Jones; She will be missed by a host of cousins and other relatives, especially the Rogers Family (Christine, Robin, Kim, Sharon, Jacqueline, Emmanuel, and their children).
