May God bless you all. ,...,I Said A Prayer For You Today,..., I said a prayer for you today, and I know God must have heard. I felt the answer in my heart, although He spoke not a word. I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn 't mind. I askedfor priceless treasures rare ofa far more lasting kind. I prayed that He'd be near you at the start ofeach new day To grant you health and blessings fair, andfriends to share your way I askedfor happiness for you in all things great and small. But that you'd know His loving care, I prayedfor most ofall. Jones, nee Ossie Helen Wood, was born in Fulton Coooty, Georgia, on March 18, 1933, the only child of the late Willie Ruth Parsons and the late Nathaniel Wood, Sr. She received her early education in Georgia, and at the age of 13 years, moved to New York with her mother where she studied dress and pattern making at Jane Addams High School. For many years, Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Glauber, Inc. and Youth Village Family Day Care Center, while raising her two children. Helen joined the Bethel Temple Church, Bronx N.Y. , while a teenager and was a faithful and active member of the Choir, the Floral Club and the Willing Workers. She took her children to church and taught them to serve the Lord by example. Helen returned to school and, in 1977, earned her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Bronx Community College. After living in New York for 31 years, she relocated to Georgia with her employer, Bums Security. Several years later, she began her career as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service where she worked until her retirement in March 1995. Helen was a loving daughter and was devoted to caring for her mother and stepfather throughout their illnesses. Helen transferred her membership from Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church in Doraville to Amanda Flipper A.M.E. Church and became a very active and faithful member. Helen was appointed to the Steward Board, served as President of the Missionary Society, was a regular member of the Sunday school and a loving sister in the Total Woman--Mind, Body and Soul Women' s Ministry. Helen was always pooctual and was often the first person at meetings and services. She was an elegant, lovely woman who always stepped out in style, always looking her very best. Helen served her community as a member of the foooding board of the Edmond T. Kemp Seeds of Promise Dollars for Scholars Chapter of the national Dollars for Scholars Network and served as cotreasurer of the Board of Directors. She also served as treasurer of her local chapter of the American Postal Workers Union. She was also a licensed real estate agent. Helen spent her days since retirement helping others with rides to appointments, taking food to sick and shut-in friends and whatever else she could do. Her bright smile and sweet manner made all who came in contact with her comfortable and happy to be around her. She also enjoyed traveling on cruises and trips with her children and good buddy Hope. There are many words that can describe Helen 0 . Jones. She was first and foremost faithful to her God and was gratefully convinced of her salvation. She was loyal, honest, dependable, energetic, patient, happy, ooderstanding, kind, joyful and she loved ooconditionally. She was a wonderfully devoted mother. Helen 0. Jones departed this life on October 13, 2001. She will be dearly missed by her two loving children, Peggie R. Jones of Edison, N.J. and Wallace B.
