As a young man, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in World War II. He was employed as a construction worker most of his life. Robert worked at the labor union for Local 138 where he later retired. Robert was a loving man and always had a smile on his face. He resided in the Oak Hurst Community for over 40 years, where he was loved by his neighbors. On March 18, 2007, God saw that Robert was getting weary, so He did what He thought was best. He came and stood beside Robert and whispered, "Come and rest, your body is healed." He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy (Aster) Johnson; one daughter, Diane Johnson; one sister, Mattie Alice Johnson; Mrs. Lillie M. Walker, Ms. Martha Slaughter; three stepdaughters, five grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family and friends. "Miss Me, But Let Me Go" When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me. I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take And each must travel alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, A step on the road home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.
