She departed this life November 18; 2003 in Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ. In 1927 Lena Bingham was ma"it:d to the late Earl N Johnson, to this union were two children, the late Esther Cousins and the late Earl D. .-. Johnson 1 When the children-were young the family migrated to Jersey City. Here is where Lena found .employment with "The St. Josephs Home for the Aged" and "The Home ofthe Aged Women. " . .~ In 1950, Sis. Johnson joined the New Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorship ofthe late Rev. C. Gross. She diligently served as a missionary extending in-home care and.comfort to many sick and shut-in.. Sis. Johnson diligently served unaer the late Rev. T. Williams and Rev. W. . Anderson. She acttVely studied:the .word ofGod and proved herselfto be a:born again child ofGo~. <;onti1Juing under the pastorship ofRev. A. White, she faithfUlly attended~worship service~ and Sunday School whenever possible and br_oughi grace and wisdom to the followship. ... Sister Johnson was affectionately feforred to by her church familY as Mother Jo1i'lison, a term ,pf endearment be~~D!!~d upon her reverently. Lena enjoyed traveling, reading and reciting poetry. She was once president of "The Montgomery Gardens Senior Citizen Club, " this is where she enjoyed socializing. Granny, as she is affectionately known by herfamily, lived a life ofa woman ofgreat cnaracter, wisdom and a humble spirit. Holiness was the way she lived Granny you 've left us a great legacy, and we 'II never . forget.
