Mattie was a soloist from the heart and became lead soloist at King Memorial. She performed for many events at the Westlake High Rise, which was her home for more than ten years. Her hobby was making crafts which she started with her sister, Carrie. They were like a set of twins who shared their homes, children, and church affiliation together. After retirement, Mattie spent much of her time at "Quality Living", a center for the elderly, where she continued to enjoy her hobby of crafts and everyone she loved received a precious ceramic gift. Mattie's failing health brought her to the home of William and Catherine Hammonds. She occasionally attended The Word of Faith Love Center and was recognized and honored as the oldest "mother" at the Love Center's first Mother's Day Celebration in 2005. She was affectionately known to many as "Granny". She had a great sense of humor and used it often. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
